C-27 or C-5

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby zkcav » Thu Nov 10, 2011 7:59 pm

Looking at spashing out to extend my airlifter fleet for FSX.

Would like opinions on Area 51's C-5 Galaxy vs Iris C-27 Spartan

Anyone with the C-5 can you confirm if it has a VC pse? Area 51's site says 2D panel but nothing about a VC.

Anyone have both and if so which do you prefer and why?

Thanks in adavance Paul

I cant say anything about the C5, but if you are an enthusiast for flying a "Simulator" the Iris Spartan will let you down. As with other folks out there it sits in the hanger with no more than an hours flying time gathering dust.
My 2c worth is, point your money somewhere else.

To follow Pete , I go the other way , don't have the C-27 but have the C5 .. the cockpit is very ....umm , Spartan .. no really - not that great , externally its is pretty but not worth it .

ive got both, if those are your options I would say the C5

i would stay clear of the spartan, the poor FDE and poor customer support, and after the last patch almost all posters on several forums reverted from v1.2 back to v1

as stated on their forums they have no interest in the near future to rectify the shortfalls, after buying the spartan and the arrogant attitude of the staff, im never buying from them again

after reading many negative posts about iris from other developers and people who purchased their products, I can see their points, clear as day

one thing i do like about the C5, it gives you the feeling of flying a fat chick alright

Matt, Ive got all 3, and i agree with the comments above...externals are real nice , but issues for those who are a little more serious about their flying than me.

Thanks for your imput much apprecated, looks like the C-5 is the go. Since no one has mentioned it I assume the C-5 has a VC.

I did it and got the C-5 on Sunday, but only did a quick test flight at KLAX, since it was overshadowed by Robin's and Mike's releases

Thanks for your input, when I get around to it I'll post a bit more feedback

The BIG thing Paul is how you enjoy the aircraft , one thingy mentioned with this model .. it is pretty on the outside , to add to that , a paint released of a Dover AFB C5 at Flightsim.com . not sure if a photoreal or a simple base change.

You in the Mil , had the chance to romp around low lev though the valleys and the hills in the C130 ... maybe even bump into Nelson at times , course you would get to see the C5 in your travels , but there is one that seems to missed , the now fazed out C141 .

You can get it freeware ? from the old Alphasim site ? . .. question marks , i have it here , it wont work in FSX ? .. C141 invented Wing Flex but i guess you have had to live close to the airport to see them regular and all the variants ... All Lockheed products , i wonder a Starlifter by who .. next unsure.gif

Looking good. Interesting to see it sized up against those 74's
... speaking of which, what are they doing parked over at the Cargo apron? winkyy.gif

Ian - thanks for the HU about the paint and you've read my mind about the C-141, but I think PMDG 737 will be the next payware A/C then go on the hunt for a Starlifter.

Dean - Ummm good question, NZ1 should be at terminal 2... will have a look at parking assignments .... one day (Damn - more work he mutters) wacko.gif

Wheeled this baby out of LKAX and did a late afternoon IFR flight to KLAS last night. She handles like a whale but stops on dime. Thanks to George was an easy flight.

Push back KLAS

Climbing out over LA

Level of at FL130

Enroute

Clearance for 01L

Lining up for ILS

CTD !!!!

Reset to saved section

Roll out

Park up and unload (no dirrector so parking is a bit suspect)

Impressions: Outside very nice, inside not too bad quite a few stations to explore, lacks FMC, radios are a pain to operate. Flight dynamics I'm guessing are realistic - shes no fighter for sure - short finals are 10 miles! This will be getting a few air miles in the future for sure. Cockpit (sorry didn't take any shots) not outstanding but functional. Value for money @27.95USD yep.
