AI addiction - someone please help

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Just had to share this with people-who-care wub.gif coz the missus certainly didn't seem too interested tongue.gif

Have been buzzing about Asia the last few nights in some heavy PAX and freight hardware and noticed that the AI population was a little sparse, especially when I got off the beaten track in China, Indonesia and Korea etc. So it was I set about downloading AI flightplans, and AI textures, hacking away at text files and compiling BGLs w TTools to liven things up a little. Well it soon got out of hand and many hours later things are looking completely different.

Apart from the 200 or so WOAI and PAI packs I already had installed I now have the following (which arent available from WOAI), someone please stop me before it sucks my entire life-force.... biggrin.gif

Aerologic
Air AsiaX
Air Busan
Air China
Air Hong Kong
Asiana Cargo
Atlas Air
British Airways World Cargo
Capital Airlines
China Eastern Airlines
China Postal Airlines

Now I can hardly move for traffic laugh.gif

The flightplans are all from avsim or flightsim and many are by Alpha India Group (AIG) who publish them with pretty well up to date schedules. The actual AI textures are also from those two sites but by various painters (mostly for the AIAardvark, TheFruitStand, DJC and EVAI models). None are packages as such so takes a little work to tie the paints to the schedules, but worth it if you've got the patience and time.

Here's some screenies, some real interesting liveries amongst the airlines in Asia, especially the freight stuff. that we dont get to see much down under.

Hong Kong (VHHH)

Guangzhou Baiyun International (ZGGG)

Seoul Incheon Freight terminal (RKSI)

That's an impressive assembly you've done.
My first inclination was to ask you to zip it and send it over.
Then I was reminded of how long it took my (mostly European) sim to load, because of aircraft bloat

You are among friends here, who understand that getting there is half the fun...

Hehe, yeah it certainly slows things down on load, I tend to go an put the kettle on at that stage.
BTW, I just beat you Charl, 34GB and 46,155 files in the aircraft folder blink.gif

You have too many flyables, then!

I tend to set up a sim for a region, with all the scenery and AI included, which gets entirely backed up to a 1TB external drive.
When I look at a new region - Taiwan is shaping up next - I throw away the entire sim and load up my vanilla version containing just the essential base textures and tweaks.
It's fun to have a sim that goes "pop" and it's loaded up.
Then you can get down to "fixing" it, before you know, it's just perfectly bloated again biggrin.gif

Sweet idea!!! .. love it thumbup1.gif
Would like to hear more about how you've set that up, chat on Teamspeak some time maybe?

I've got a couple of PHP scripts I've written for searching, querying, validating AI flightplans and the like, had thought about automating the build and export and import of packages ala the WOAI tool, without breaking aircraft.cfg files etc. Be nice to be able to share those manually-built packages with others, and import theirs.

No Teamspeak, alas I am on a wireless subnet which defeats all interactive stuff including MP... no Twits nor Facebooks, Yourspace either (by choice).
But PM's may suffice here.
I am a devotee of WOAI as the installer is totally painless.
And so quick! you can load an entire continent worth of AI with 4 mouseclicks.
I see many of the Indies get absorbed into WOAI with time, so it's just a question of waiting a little.

Like you I do like to see strange tails in strange places, although these days Western airframes are intruding even into the heart of Mother Russia...

No problem, if you are one of these...you just use the Back Door

And since this was part of a transit to see if the A330 really felt like a computer game...
A scant 5 hours westward, nothing but Airbus to behold:

Sorry Deeknow, I'll stop now, you know how it is when they get started...

Right first time, and it's my "home from home" airport in FS

Right first time, I was a little surprised when this bizarre thing popped up as AI. But apparently it's authentic in those colours.

Right first time, too! As Deeknow points out: real AI men roll their own...
