Simple IF capable plane

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Hi there, can anyone recommend a good, cheap (often those two qualities don't go together), simple aircraft to use for IF practice in FS9?
I want something with an ADF, OBS and most importantly an HSI. I fly Cherokees, Warriors and Archers in real life so I'm wondering if the Carenado Archer II has those instruments. (EDIT: Just looked at the pics on their website and it appears to not have an HSI :-/ )
Virtual cockpit would be great too.

Cheers

What about the default Beechcraft Baron? A great IFR platform fror training.

If a HSI is a must the Carenado Mooney might be worth a look, or even the old V35B (the Saratago has a HSI as well, but no 2D cockpit so it makes IFR a little harder). As Cowpatz said the default Baron is about a good an IFR paltform you can get (used to use it for all my IFR renewal prep), but if you want something a little different try the Dreamfleet Baron and Bonanza, or the FSD 337.
It's a shame that all the newer releases don't have a 2D panel; I find it a lot easier to practice IFR procedures, but I guess you've got to cater to what the market wants.

PS, just remembered the Carenado 206 has a HSI - then you can get my ZK-NOC repaint and the Air Fiordland one that'll be coming soon! tongue.gif

Thanks guys. I just had a blat in the Baron and it was good, great to see an HSI but no separate OBS.
I would prefer something a bit slower though so I have more time to do everything!

That is what throttles are for smile.gif

What aircraft type would you prefer to fly? Single Fixed pitch prop with non retractable gear? Like a C172 etc?
For the best bang for your buck have a look at the default aircraft in FS9 and choose which one you think will be most suitable (forget the panel for now).
Post back here with that preference and I will see if I can tweak the panel for you (at least in the 2D panels) which in my view are way better for practice IFR.

You just missed a sale on the Lionheart Bellanca Viking - believe it has a 2D panel in the FS9 version. Another I liked in FS9 was the Dreamfleet A36 - don't know if it's still available.

I bought the Carenado Archer II on sale because I'm familiar with it and its simple (I'm avoiding twins at the moment as my second throttle is playing up).
I found a tutorial on modifying/making panels so I'm going through that at the moment...
