MSI video cards and recording video

A forum to share your FS video clips and movies

I was updating drivers and software on the computer (a looooong process) and was reading the information about the updates. I found something that might be of use to anyone else who is running a MSI graphics card (I have the 560 Ti Twin Frozr). In the new Afterburner software update (their overclocking software for their cards), they offer an alternative to FRAPS for recording videos:-

http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/overview.htm#

the video recording program is found under the Video Capture - Predator section.

I will give it a try when I can get some more time, but if it is not heavy on frames then it might be a good alternative to FRAPS.

smooth landings.

I wonder whether it'll work on non-MSI cards?

Been using Afterburner on my ASUS and EVGA cards for ages, its just a rebranded reskined RIVA Tuner with a few extra bells. HAvent tried the newer version yet. will give it a go.

Quick test ... good result on my nVidia GTX260. I just did two quick tests - both at 800*600 - and the results were really quite good. Smooth - though I haven't tried full frame yet. No sound though, so you'll have to capture that separately.

I have FRAPS anyway, but the Afterburner results seemed just as good. Worth a try!!

goto http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm scroll down a little and download the 2.2 beta has full sound capture.

I can get it to run on every game except FSX have no idea why, may try disabling enb mod.

---------------------------------

OK disabled Enb mod and it works a treat, silky smooth video and sound. Looks like my investment with fraps has expired.

Thanks for the tip about the 2.2 beta version, which also records sound. Recording a video without sound is a bit daft to me, so the beta version may be just what I am after.

Good if this works on other cards as well, but as I have the 560 Ti Twin Frozr from MSI, then there should be no problems.

Now I just HAVE to make some videos....

smooth landings.

I haven't tried a smaller size yet, but my full-size rendering wasn't too great. The video was excellent, but the sound was bad - popped and crackled all over - and lost synch half way through the recording. Still ... it's only a beta!

From what I remember in the FRAPS forum (and Playclaw, which I also bought), the problem is always the sheer volume of data - and the processing required (in real time). Considering you'll also be running FS pretty well maxed out in CPU terms, it's a very tall order!

Do you have to install the whole afterburner suit or does predator come as a seperate download?
