Reveiws arn't to good, got this from VRS forum

QUOTE
i was probably the first costumer for the weapon pack from cs, and heres my review:

weapon pack from CS is nothing but a 2d panel, a reworked f-18 HUD gauge, flying missiles (that only appear when you fire them), and exploding low-res military AI.

i think they used all the hype tacpack caused to promote a similar product that doesnt compare in quality.

pros:
-military AI on some areas, wich can explode when you hit them
-perhaps SDK can make things a little better and add better integration

cons:
-2d panels (could accept for a fs2004 or older add on, but not for fsx, cmon
-missiles arent visible under any aeroplane wings
-no integration with hornet radar or SMS
-no integration with CS hornet aswell (even with their own loadout!)
-manual lacks information
-no screenshot or real information about the product so the consumer wont have any "surprises" after purchasing (like i did)
-cant use their exploding animations (best thing from the pack) with VRS missiles
-you can have similar better quality freeware addons for the acceleration hornet.

<< unsatisfied CS costumer, probably gonna request a refund.[/quote]

But I will see what its like anyway.

Ummmm .. thanks for the heads-up! I've contacted support. My reply was #36 - and may have been one of the first correct guesses ... not sure. Worth a try though, eh?

That review doesn't sound very promising! CS must be cutting corners ... as all the stuff I've had off them in the past has been superb (notably the venerable Herc).

What is really but is that they didn't include any bombs, its all rockets and guns. You where on the list of correct guesses.

First ten people who most distinctly guessed in this topic what the Product X is all about are:

Much as I hate to appear ungrateful ... and much as I hate to malign Captain Sim ... I'd avoid this add-on like the plague at the moment. I think it's a pre-release beta and hardly of marketable quality sad.gif

1) The installer kicked off by trying to REMOVE my (perfectly legal) BUFF exterior [gasp!!].

2) The panel.cfg mods to existing aircraft often don't "take" - even with similar aircraft variants.

3) Sometimes you lose sound.

4) The frame rates are simply *horrific*. Even will ALL autogen set to OFF it was a slideshow ... and totally unplayable (considering you're meant to be turning and burning).

5) There may be a radar (but I haven't discovered it yet) ... so you have to fly with labels ON to spot the 1px adversaries. I ended up having to fire up FS Commander (which gave me a radar picture) just to see where the bandits were. Of course, this didn't help framerates much - and is a total cheat anyway.

6) The documentation - though apparently comprehensive - has mistakes/typos in it. The key chart to calibrate the HUD position is simply *wrong*.

Having *extensively* "flown" just about every combat flight sim released since "Aviator" on the BBC Micro, I think MSFS should stick to what it does very well - commercial flying, with all its systems and navigational complexities. It just hasn't got the horse-power to do all the calculations that combat modeling needs - unless you're running the fastest PC on the planet.

My feeling is that the marketing hypesters just wanted to get something out of the door - to test the water - with the developers screaming AAARRRGH ... NOT YET!!! Releasing something in this state is going to dent Captain Sim's reputation, IMHO.

Whereas I can wholeheartedly give the A2A Spit a 100% GET IT rating, this has to be AVOID AT ALL COSTS sad.gif

What do you make of it, kcgb?

Reading bits and pieces on other forums about it...i dont think your alone Adam. I dont think it has a place in FSX....people buy the Mil addons knowing they cant really be "used" (in fsx)....and there are plenty of shooting sims out there....i say keep FSX weapons free as possible....i enjoy the peace.

I think Im out in the wilderness on this one , along with my Airtruk.....I also think C/S stuffed up big time with this .......I'll just move a little further out into the wilderness now.

I haven't dared check the forums yet ... but ...

... what can I say (and so derailing the topic entirely, laugh.gif) but if you insist on piloting a load of flying Lego, you *deserve* to be in the wilderness! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

I have the same result as you but the frames stop when I fire a weapon for the first time and the effects kill the frames rate.

Try adding it to various (different) aircraft. I found it's only worked on one aircraft so far - and even refuses to install/work properly in other variants of the same plane. I mean *variants* - not just different textures. FSX will see them as different aircraft, but they're basically the same model (Hawker Hunter, in my case). Each has its own panel.cfg file (note to myself ... must check how they differ).

Try also selecting tone of the CS amended aircraft (eg. the CS Lear). It'll be a seperate/new entry in your aircraft list. I don't have acceleration, so only got the amnded Lear on install.

Take a look at the panel.cfg of the aircraft you've attached it to. It's possible that there were simply too many window slots already assigned and Product X stuffed up ... or has mapped the windows to some unusual key combinations.

Usually, SHIFT-2 brings up the Product X strip (you may want to be in 2D cockpit mode first though) ... then SHIFT-3 brings up the HUD overlay itself. CTRL-SHIFT combinations mimic clicking on the switches in that 2D sub-panel.

Seeing as I got a complimentary/prize copy, I was going to post them some debugging/feedback to show some gratitude, but the whole thing has been quite painful and I just don't think this "Product" is going to go anywhere at all, so I've left it for now.

Hmmm ... not good. They should have released this FREE ... as an *alpha* (it's not even *beta* quality) then they could have used the feedback they got to further develop the product. Charging money for this crock is really going to harm Captain Sim's reputation.

I'm not normally this dismissive/unsupportive of a product, but I've just spent nearly a week playing with a *very* well developed product that's going to get even better, as tech support listens and responds/implements solutions quickly ... A2A and its Spitfire. Granted, it's triple the price, but the difference is only a couple of pizzas.
