Several Specific-location Questions/issues

Information and support relating to this forthcoming New Zealand Vector Land Class addon.

vlc scenery and new zealand are amazingly beautiful after patch and airport additions. i have been flying around to some specific sites and saw a couple of anomalies, as follows.

1. near hokitika, there is a highway (hwy 6, ruatapu road) which crosses the river near the airfield. the bridge and the highway roadbed sit next to each other, whereas on google earth, they appear to be just a single road. can the discrepancy be fixed or clarified?

2. flying around aviemore city, i noticed 2 lakes connected by a canal or river. the approximate coordinates are S44 39 65 E170 21 58. my guess is the lakes are lake aviemore and lake waitaki, but unforunately, google earth view has a large clound over this area! it appears that there are differences in elevation between the lakes and the connecting river/canal. there also are 2 roads and a strip of land (?aviemore dam, perhaps) across the boundary of lake aviemore and the river. the whole area simply looks anomalous and unatural and i wonder if there is an issue with either elevation data or landclass.

3. final issue, i have flown mostly around the coast of south island and have only begun to explore north island. there are several areas along the south island coast, (for example, heading south from timaru and north from hokitika), where there appear to be extensive beaches. the appearance of the beaches is more like default textures than sand. i appreciate that this is a pretty minor consideration, like my other issues, but i wonder if my interpretation is correct and whether there are any plans to make the coastal areas look more natural.

i apologize for being so finicky. it is just that you have given us such beautiful scenery that small irregularities really stand out. i will be delighted to continue to explore new zealand exactly as it is and look forward to future additons to the scenery.

I'd say 'thorough' rather than 'finicky':)

First, clarification -- VLC doesn't touch any bridges, so you are seeing the default bridge here. Since most of the default bridges work ok, it made sense I guess to just leave them as-is, but in some cases there will be some anomalies with a few.
A fix -- in this case, I'm planning to release a custom Hokitika airport, which will include the town, so I'll fix the bridge then.

I just wonder if you are seeing the same thing I'm seeing? There are three dams which make up the Waitaki hydro area, Benmore, Aviemore and Waitaki. The one obscured by cloud in GE is Aviemore. However all three are pretty nicely represented in VLC, given that there is no proper method of representing dams. The only real way is to model the dam, and I would love to do this here, I am hoping to include the dams in my Omarama scenery, but like always the cost of the aerial images is holding it up.

But in the meantime, I find this one of the most amazing areas to fly in VLC. I have a few screenshots of the dam areas which I have been using to try and source some nice cheap aerials, and I may post them later.

95% of the textures you see are default using VLC. It is first and foremost a landclass project, although it does include a couple of custom landclass textures. My impression of the areas you are talking about is that there are very few sandy beaches -- either stony, or rocky. I must admit that FSX doesn't do good beaches, some developers just leave these out.

It would be great someday to see a completely customised set of NZ textures, but this would be separate from VLC.

Actually, there's an Aviemore Dam over at Snowman's site, for FS2004 but works well in FSX.
