An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby crazy » Sun Jan 23, 2011 8:18 pm

Hi all, hope you had a great xmas and new year.

So... I've purchased VLC and downloaded Christchurch X. However, I can't figure out if they are working properly. I've turned all my settings to high (I've attached some screenies of those) and think I've installed them correctly.

I am posting here in the hope that someone a little more FSX-scenery savy than me can take a quick look at the screenshots below and let me know if this is how the scenery should look with both of the abovementioned addons. I've tried deleting/installing VLC and CHCHX and I cant see a massive difference between the default scenery and the addons. I suspect I may have missed something in the installation, or, possibly, my graphics card just isnt quite up to it (I'm running a geforce GT435m with i7 processor). It's also very possible that I'm just dreaming about how it is supposed to look!

Thanks a lot for your help,
Dave.

ok, thanks. I'm having a hell of a time trying to add chchx to my scenery. I've googled it and it looks like a lot of people are having the same problems with windows 7. But, even following their instructions word for word won't allow me to add it.

I'm reinstalling the whole thing now to see what I can come up with...

If you have named your scenery ChristchuchX , have two folders , Scenery and Texture you will be fine , simply manually install .

If you downloaded this scenery from Mikes 'www.FS-Creations.org' now deleted due a corrupted 'Illegal Alien' you will be fine and files updated shortly .

If you d/loaded from Lawrie Roach,s 'Snowman, s site' , the file is incorrect and missing properly placed ANG files , again due to our 'Illegal Alien' , until such time you can contact me for the proper AGN placement .

Cheers

I think I know what you mean. This is the "FSX won't let you add an area because it keeps on browsing down to a deeper folder on Windows 7" issue? I ran into that, it's pretty much a question of figuring out the proper sequence of actions: Once you know how, you forget you ever had a problem with it. Just from memory:
1. Go into the Scenery Library
2. Choose "Add Area"
3. Browse to the folder on your drive containing the Scenery. You should see the "Scenery" & "Texture" folders, and the full path to the scenery shoudl be listed in the textbox under the folder view.
4. Click on an empty space inside the folder view.
5. If you did it right, FSX will close the dialog, and the scenery is added to your library! If not, try again until you get it.

Don't feel bad if it doesn't work at first, this one is a bit tricky.

Ian. I installed ChristchurchX from snowman's site. What files am I missing, and how do I fix? I haven't had any obvious problems, besides improper placement of forest field and west malton airfields which I fixed by renaming the afcad files, since the new south island airfield pack had better versions of those fields anyway.

David Gunson on Soviet ATC: "They have a super system there. When you want to fly from say Moscow to Leningrad, you are give three things: A height, a route and a speed. If you deviate from any of these three things you are joined by two MIG's on each wing and you land at the nearest available airfield. The passengers continue by coach, and the crew are never seen again. ... It's a super system, they don't get repetitive faults...
