So, Doug, you're saying that no mentioning of how bad FSX is allowed? That to say anything against FSX is heresy? I still use FSX because I have to - there is no viable alternative. Why is it that you and others are so defensive of FSX? It is provably a badly-written bloated sim (4 years later and we still need a $5k PC to run it at full noise in 1920 x 1080? Give me a break!), and yet you lot bring out the tar and oil when I call it such. What's up with that? It's ok to enjoy one's sim, it's quite another to defend it to the death... You don't see me telling people here to stop using FSX, do you?

Sorry Pete no offense was intended I was not saying that FSX was an excellent program all I was saying was that until something better comes along it is the best we have for now so there is no use complaining about it if anyone doesn't like it they don't have to use it, but it has come along way from FS5, FS98 and FS2000 so like everything else each newer version was an improvement over the previous version but until the Outerra actually comes out and is tested I will be sticking to FSX with all its addons biggrin.gif

Did you know we had a specific rule which states that you cannot denigrate Microsoft?

Considering a "forum" is the place for the exchange of views, what on earth can the logic be in this rule...?

If an aspect of the thing is rubbish, why can't it be discussed. Sounds like China V Google to me.

Surely constructive criticism should be welcomed - i.e. a well based criticism supported by fact and data...?

" a poorly-written obsolete bloat-fest like FSX ",..is not constructive.,..but in saying that I can't talk as I have inflamed a few topics without thinking through my replies properly in the past. To my eyes the difference is that IBoy repeated the phrase " poorly-written obsolete bloat-fest " about 3 or so times and had plenty time to think about each of those replies,..this was unnecessary. We all know FSX (and every preceding version ) has their flaws.,..I will keep looking on at this possible new sim with interest for sure but in the mean time I will continue to enjoy and make the most of what I have at the moment which in my case is FS9 and FSX...until something better ..which is the nature of technolodgy and development..to get better.. comes along to fill our Microsofts large Flightsim shoes. Im glad IslandBoy brought another sim possibility to out attention and thank him for it,..just not for his approach towards the sim he presently uses that he would otherwise not be on these forums. I have to ask,..if you hate it so much why do you use this "poorly-written obsolete bloat-fest " ,..because there is bugger all else out there ..there is Xplane.. A few products have come and gone in the flight simulation arena but at the end of the day Microsoft Flightsimulator in all its guises has given us the closest thing to real flight,..all with their share of faults no arguement there ,...but I still love it and use it almost everyday.
Nae sayers can go dump there Microsoft Windows and all their Microsoft products , ..install Linux and Xplane and live happily ever after .

'Denigrate' and 'constructive criticism' are opposites, so we exclude one to encourage the other.
I had to look up 'denigrate' just in case I'd chosen the wrong word, but no, it means exactly what I was aiming for:

1. To attack the character or reputation of; speak ill of; defame.
2. To disparage; belittle

...in other words, destructive criticism.

Aha, I see the problem...

It also means : asperse , besmirch , calumniate , defame , slander , smear , smirch , sully.

Any Cad who would do this should be publicly horse-whipped in a public place, what did nice old Microsoft ever do to attract evil thoughts....LOL quietly. ohmy.gif

If we could have that in FSX NOW, wouldn't we be happy campers? Hell, yes!

If it can compare to this, then yeah it would be great. But the word "generated" leaves a lot to be desired, if it's going to be anywhere real to the planet it still needs elevation and land data of some sort.
To me FSX is only JUST maturing, heck I remember FS2004 stalling what I thought was a good PC in its day, whats the difference with FSX,
I will be enjoying the flagship of flightsim for a long time to come. I don't care if it costs money neither does my wife, and I don't care if it fills up a 100 2TB drives in the process.
I cant fly for real with my heart condition so chucking money at FSX is the next best thing for me to reach for the skies, I can sit in my VC and be a god.

Me personally I think the folks that just sit around waiting for the next BIG THING in simulation instead of flying are just gamers not sim'ers.

Anyway sit back and enjoy some clunky old bloat ridden FSX screenies taken at 75fps (smoother than the silk stockings on Angelina Jolie's legs) wub.gif

PS: sorry about the jpeg quality, but hey...... they are jpegs tongue.gif

Watching the Lukla video, it struck me that Outerra gives a much more realistic 'perspective' -- in that looking out from the ground at Lukla gives a real impression of actually being there -- you feel like you could walk to the edge and look down at something real.
Still, a long way to go -- no autogen, apart from that one tree -- I suspect everything else (including the road signs) are hand-placed.
The trees rotate to the view -- this was a very handy technique in FS2002/4, but we lost it in FSX.

[So, Doug, you're saying that no mentioning of how bad FSX is allowed? That to say anything against FSX is heresy? I still use FSX because I have to - there is no viable alternative]

So the No.1 Flight simulatpr is FSX, as your above states.

Your expectations appear to be that this new option is better, faultfree or as close as you can get and it will provide all that FSX + addons has? (Given that you critcise that it takes addons to improve FSX)
