Mount Cook Airlines HS.748

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Thanks, mate!

O.K. - I made up my mind and asked myself why Mount Cook Airlines should have changed their "house colour" in the seventies.
Obviously, their Twin Otter ZK-CJZ, whose 1970 livery already rolled out of my paint shack, also wore this nice light blue, as shown here:
http://nzff.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...t&p=8260996

Applied to the 748, it looks like this:

Comes quite close to Ian's livery, eh?

Too bad, I liked this darker blue shade...

Cheers,
Markus.

Thanks again, guys!
Apart from the nacelles, she's almost ready to be uploaded.

Ian?
Any news on the polished metal nacelle textures? unsure.gif
Maybe I could finish them? (just in case you got side-tracked again... tongue.gif )

Cheers,
Markus.

Thanks a lot, mate!

This was awesome stuff to start with:

I just had to remove some items (air intakes, panel lines, wing lights) and a little blue tint from the photoreal textures, add some more blank metal to the aft and lower sections of the nacelle and create a decent alpha layer.
Now it looks like this:

What do you say?

Cheers,
Markus.

Isn't it amazing, how many artifacts you can accept in photoreal, that you would never paint in yourself?

About time to wrap and package!
Very nice...
I am re-installing Wing Commander Warren's Invercargill airport and photoreal surrounds in anticipation.
Just the ticket to kick off a S Island tour.

Thanks a ton, guys!

But this is still work-in-progress:
I have a parallel therad at cbfsim
http://www.cbfsim.org/cbfsim/cbfsBB/viewto...f=9&t=20537

and Gary Russell, who did most of the 748 paints, has pointed me to some issues to iron out.
So stay tuned!

Cheers,
Markus.

Good point on the artefacts, Charl!

I think their majority had to be removed:

"More blue"?
Are you sure?

I have removed some blue tint, but they still seem a little "blue-ish" on my (calibrated) screen here...

The plan is to release the photoreal nacelle textures as an alternative file included with the Mount Cook livery to let the user decide which nacelles he'd like to use. I'm aware of the general problem with mixing photoreal and handpainted textures. It sometimes looks odd, one more reason to leave the choice open.

If anyone is interested, I could also release a "nacelles only" layer to add to the phantastic paint kit for other repainters to play with.
Would this be O.K. for you, Ian?

Blue - Just ever so slight - the sample you have was draw out from the photo currently on the missing list .

The "Nacelles only" is a Superb idea , ideal to Ricks 748 and Gary Russell paint and modifing putting then to the other Dart s the Viscount and one off our members 'Dougs' favourite the Argosy .

Markus you have done an absolutely supreme job and many work be pleased with your work you have done with it !

Hi Marcus just showed the pics to an ex Mt cook pilot and he said the blue looks good but all the wings top and bottom were silver as well as the nacelles on the pics of the ones he has but then again he said that the paint scheme was changed several times so there could be three or four different pain schemes for ZK- CWJ.

Even the first "Blue/Gray" scheme wasn't too much consistent:
I decided to take this 1977 pic of CWJ as template:
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Mount-Cook-...-748/0004616/L/

This shot of MCA, taken in the same year, seems to show the lower nacelle parts (below wing level) painted gray:
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Mount-Cook-...-748/0004617/L/

So maybe CWJ had blank wings too, whereas MCA's wings were painted.
I fear it might be a huge problem to blend the (more-or-less...) photoreal nacelles with hand-painted blank wings, but it's worth trying.

All things considered, it might also be no bad idea to get the most of this bird and release
- ZK-CWJ with blank wings and
- ZK-MCA painted gray.

@ Ian:
I'll try to get some more blue tone on them.
Thank your for your permission to distribute the "nacelle layer" too - I think some painters will be very grateful about this!

Cheers,
Markus.
