Just wondering, do we only get one shot at PERSEL?

I managed to slide through on my first attempt while others weren't so lucky. There were two guys on my selection that missed out on Helicopter Crewman due to the number of positions available, but they were offered AEOP (As it was then) instead. Another was told to reapply in a years time. The worst was the guy that was on his third attempt at Persel - he was told not to bother applying again....... ever...... unsure.gif

I'm guessing that is from ranks? You can only do PERSEL twice as a direct entrant, then your only chance is through remuster from ranks, but if you've been knocked back twice you'll have a hard time convincing them on a third time.

Sorry to hear that you didn't get in....I'm sure you tried your best and it would have been a memorable experience. You can take comfort in the fact that you probably won't go through such a rigorous selection process for a job again.

Good luck with the air traffic controller process, my mates girlfriend is doing the course and is thoroughly enjoying it.

Thats a shame but ATC is another good option!! It pays A HECK of a lot better too!! If you want any headsup with the ATC aptitude testing then start a new thread and I'll tell you how mine went (Albeit 6 years ago!!). I found it a darn sight easier than PERSEL but no less intimidating!!

I have only recently become active on this board again (due to the "spamming" shutdown). Happy I have re-discovered it, and similar goes for flight-simulation in general!
I'm attending OASB in approximately 1 weeks time (for Pilot Officer).

Is there anyone out there with some 2020 tips? Not sure if much has changed in the last 10 years in terms of selection.

My Goodness, a lot of water has passed under the bridge since this thread was active.
I had a brief encounter with this system (non commissioned) way back in the last century. But I'm sure some things don't change.
My aged advice would be, to be clear about what you want and why ...and to be honest with them, and more importantly, with yourself.
What you may consider a shortfall may turn out to be nothing in the great scheme of things. Don't say anything you think they want to hear, I can tell you now, they don't. They want to hear what you have to say.

Good luck ....just be yourself.... that's the person they are looking for.

I can vouch for all the other comments and say the same - just be you. Do not try to second guess what you think they want to hear!
The biggest change in the last few years is that a lot less people are needed and the training of pilots has slowed right down, so its pretty competitive.

Thank you for the feedback. Very helpful and along the lines of what I was expecting.
