Picked up on the net that Virtavia have now released the Rutan Long Eze for both FSX and FS2004

Something a bit different. Anyone flown in one? Wonder what they are like to fly.

Smooth landings.

Course these being older Alphasim models released under the Virtavia brand , think was one off the few that moved away the Alpha gauge package , believe Charl did by it , and posted few good screens .

Thank you Ian...30 months down the road I'm glad to see your encyclopaedic memory still ticks over at 110%...unbelievable.
The model was difficult to land smoothly, may have been patched now, but otherwise a stable enough oddity.
Naki had some insight into a hot local version at Tauranga.

One used to streak around the Tauranga skies but can't recollect seeing it for a couple of years now...., the definitive canard shape...

C'mon Paul, what's the latest on this one...?

Yeah that one was Mazda Rotary powered..hence the noise!..last I heard (back in February) that it was been repowered with a jet engine ...an APU from a Chinook helicopter IIRC. Maybe we will see (or hear!) it this summer?

Theres a Long Eze for sale on Trademe..the one Trolley highlights in the other Long Eze thread

She's not really new - I bought it when it was first released as an Alphasim bird - outstanding plane, though I wish they had made an O-320 powered version with the wing tanks/racks.

Just stumbled over this chat.

The rotary has gone, the apu has gone and now the NZTG based 'hot' Long Ez has been fitted with a big jet engine. thumbup1.gif

It is ready to fly!! plane.gif

Using an a Jet in a Rutan , ok stressed for more power and adding retractable gear ok .. but now a jet , the original appearance seemed to make it look designed for a turbine , guess be the same power but uprated from those little Bede types of the early 90s .. UAV/Drone this could get interesting !

Well believe it or not the Tauranga machine is having a rocket motor fitted. The APU/turbine engine had some issues that made it impractical for flying....not that the rocket engine is proving much better.
The major issue at the moment is the amount of residual thrust at "idle". Braking is a definite problem and may require a drag shute.
He is not flying at the moment as he has a stauch going with airways over fees that is going to court. They will not issue him with a takeoff clearance during controlled hours.
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!
