World LandClass Textures new NZ texture set

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby toprob » Sun Aug 22, 2010 11:19 am

First of all, just to make it clear, these having nothing to do with Godzone or Real New Zealand. Although the initial release refers to them as Real New Zealand, it would make more sense to call them 'World LandClass NZ' or something which doesn't cause any confusion with existing scenery.

Please direct any support issues to their website.

I've had a couple of queries about missing Godzone and Real New Zealand scenery (that's real Real New Zealand:) after installing this. Just be aware that any landclass addon needs to be prioritised in your Scenery Library so that it allows photo scenery to display. You can do this from the Scenery Library within FSX. Just select the new landclass scenery once it is installed and activated, and press the 'down' button until it sits below any photo scenery which you want to see.

Yes Rob I have done that and in all the pics I did of Whangarei Hamilton and Queenstown I have the World LandClass NZ set third from the bottom of any other NZ ad-on scenery the only ones below it is the Red Barron 20M and Red Barron topo.
What I did find by putting it under the other scenery was that it didn't make any difference to the Real NZ Wellington or Super City Auckland I haven't tried it in the Real NZ Marlborough or any of the other Real NZ scenery yet but assume it would be the same as with RNZ WN and RNZ Super City.

It appears that there is some question about whether or not this is a legitimate release. In the meantime I've put the other posts on ice until this is resolved.

Be aware that NZFF cannot be seen to be promoting any release which isn't entirely legal and above board.

Are you able to elaborate on "legitimate release" at all? Without getting into trouble, I mean winkyy.gif

Drat! Need to register sad.gif ... what's the general gist?

EDIT: I *am* registered ... but appear to have insufficient rights to view that topic [sigh].

When I posted the original screenshots, the thread was titled:
"Almost too good to be true"
Well, my granddaddy always said:
"If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't"

I also queried: "Why now?"
So is this some kind of guerrilla war between VLC and ORBX supporters?
I mean, what a lot of effort for something that was bound to die an unseemly death...
Didn't know NZ held this kind of interest, what a pity.

I agree - that's a lot of work to go to in terms of flogging some else's work then hosting it & giving it away for free! Some sort of personal vendetta, perhaps? blink.gif

Still all these posts were pulled from NZFF 4 hours before the guy Nick from GEX worked out that the textures are his ,i was looking for a pic in a post and went what the hell wheres all my shots gone , a bit premature pulling them from a couple ppls theory's hours before the guy worked it out himself dry.gif

Funny we are only going on a couple ppls word ,who say that did not rip the textures off a designer before GEX ,seeing ive read they have a very old timestamp years before GEX textures came out , were is the screenshots of this proof ,ive seen nothing but one guy saying they are his and all info about world textures being ripped from the world by Admins and the forums where this info was posted lock down so know one can see ..

So what are we suppose to do now Delete our amazing NZ ??

Yeah right. I downloaded mine from a legitimate source in good faith so I'm not going to lose too much sleep.

Yeah i cant see this happening ,but would this mean anybody who has a green NZ there posts will be harassed by MODs and admin if its not exsample VLC or GEX or Orbx textures ? are we going to say to the unknown user hey you are running pirated textures your post is now deleted ?
what a mess this has become , think ill have to make some legit ground textures to replace the ones we seem to be losing ,its only about 350 X 4 seasons of them anyway , ive been looking into making 30cm ground textures myself for NZ , im sick of the default USA looking textures that really dont suit this part of the world ..

The original threads are not gone, just switched off until this is sorted. If it does turn out that these textures are legitimate and legally distributed then I'll switch the threads back on. However this is an online forum, not a court, so we don't worry too much about 'innocent until proven guilty.'

I would be interested to have your thoughts -- at exactly what point should this be acted upon? I would think that I've made it very clear that NZFF doesn't have a 'let's wait and see' attitude to illegal distribution. Letting things like this go is really just another way of saying it's ok, and it most definitely isn't ok.

There is too much of this kind of behaviour going on as it is, and I'm aware that some people think this it is ok to 'give to the community', whether or not you have the right to do so. However NZFF isn't the place to promote this kind of attitude.

Thanks for that, I thought it was just my normal paranoia...

It did cross my mind that, just a few days away from the release of VLC, it would be awfully convenient for some to see thread topics out there relating 'Real NZ' with stolen textures. New Zealand seems to be hot property at the moment, I'm thinking of calling this thread 'Battle for Middle Earth.'

Good call removing the posts.... sadly I don't think this will be the end of the issue.... the GEX developer posted on the Sim-Outhouse forum link above that they are now anticipating a number of alternate filenames and download sites to start appearing.... interesting comments at the end too.....

Yes, I think it's the right thing to do to play this "right" and with care. If the stuff in question is nicked, then we have no business using it. It will be v interesting to see how this all comes out in the wash... ninja.gif

I wondered why the post on this went dead, had there been a comment that the "matter was under investigation" I could have saved all that time in backing up, downloading and using up my
bandwidth. There now seems to be a bunch of people who had reservations from the start.

At the moment I'm struggling to notice any difference from what I previously had under FSCENE.

Hi Barry

Please read the thread over at SOH - particularly the last post from Nick from GEX.

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=41710

The discovery that the textures were illegtimate happened overnight and we (Robin and I) were only aware of this today - although there was a comment yesterday at SOH that they MIGHT be illegitimate but it wasnt proven until earlier today (or last night while I was safely tucked up in bed). I am trying to get hold of Nick of Flight 1 to make a statement here but no succes so far - in the meantime please refer to his post at SOH

Cheers
