A new version of NZ is coming.

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby gruschow » Sat Aug 07, 2010 8:47 pm

I don't know if anyone is aware that ORBX has started on NZ. They are at present working on the south island and expect to release it about Xmas. It is being done from high density photos. The included mesh will be very high defination. The early beta shots I have seen are mind blowing. I don't know what the price will be, but I expect it will be under $50 NZ. It is certainly going to be far better than anything seen yet.

Orbx has practicly finished Australia and is currently working on the West Coast of usa. And it's selling like wildfire.
OZX, that I am associated with, uses the Orbx landclass to put in the smaller airfields and the bush strips. All OZX work is freeware and we have done over 300 so far. Some samples are shown below.
ORBX in the main is payware, though is is extremely low priced.

Anyone interested is welcome to visit the orbx or OZX home pages.

I love my OZx scenery in my Orbx PNW scenery (Ranger Creek is a favourite) but for NZ it will be RealNZ and other NZ made scenery with VLC.

Whats the point of buying ORBX NZ if all my payware Realnz and all my other NZ airports won't work in it??? THe guys at ORBX have never answered my query to this question in their forums so I presume they won't.

Conversly will the OZx scenery be VLC compatible???

Some screenies of VLC here

Looking good be interesting to see all the freeware airports blended in with VLC as they should work with both packages seeing they are free of ftx textures and so on ,so no matter which way you head on product being vlc or ftx you will get to use all these freeware airports these guys plan on doing for us here in NZ , i say bring it on ,should be cool to actually fly NZ instead of trying to build it all the time ..

I've been doin a lot of flying in Aus at the moment and out of all the flying i've done (coming up 30+ hrs now) the freeware OzX airfields have been the most fun. No rural feild is flat and the amount of detail put into some of them is incredable. These airfields really bring the sim to Life. A big cheers to the OZx Team.

The reason you got no reply is probably because no one knows. For a start the mesh will differ. OZX scenery will probably work. but not very well. At this stage I would say choose one or the other and stick to it.
I have the 20M mesh and Topo plus realNZ and other NZ scenery. I think the realnz is very good, What there is of it. IMO the "other" is mostly rubbish, with a few exceptions. And the price of Real NZ is way too high.
And scenery designed for FS9 will never be satisfactory in FSX, no matter how much it is "doctored".
Jack.

ohmy.gif Im glad it wasnt just me who saw that......but i cant quite make it out. No doubt some sort of aussie subliminal advertising ninja.gif Dont they know, we can only read sheep.
Regarding the main theme (Orbx Vs whoever) Im more than happy to stay at home. So much talent right here on the forum New_Zealand_etc.gif
But choice is good....

I also specialise im remote & airstrips in Australia. Maybe i could advertise myself while ORBX is sending out agents to do some subliminal advertising, find my sceneries here! http://fsxworld1.webs.com/. If your looking to buy ORBX's scenery then dont be fooled with their professional photos! They also just picked there best sceneries and showed them.

Hmm rubbish scenery?..maybe I should just go over to Orbx or some other Aussie flightsim forum and say some of the Aussie scenery is rubbish, I'm sure my post would be deleted in a jiffy.

As for the price been too high for Real NZ scenery - they are better value than Orbx airports - $25 Aussies only gets you a very small farm strip (mind you very detailed). For a similar price of RealNZ scenery you get at least one or two regional airports plus some bonus airports or for $18NZ you get a whole regional airport.

My RealNZ airports look just about as good as the Orbx airports do in FSX - the detail of Orbx Airports are finer (maybe too fine - I am not likely to read all the shop and road signs etc as I fly into an airport) and they do have the advatange of putting them onto an improved base like PNW Blue, but the RealNZ Airport buildings and infrastructure looks just as good if not better.

That's a very interesting and backhanded compliment, there, Jack.

This has been discussed here before. The problem with 'other' scenery is the way in which Orbx activates theirs. It supplies little facilities files for a lot of airports, so that when you 'voz' there's no provision to choose which airports will be reactivated. Australian developers were suddenly getting support queries asking why their airports were messed up, and the user expected them to supply a solution to let them use both Orbx and other scenery.

I would hope that Orbx wouldn't do things the same way here. It doesn't really seem right to me.

Correction: All OZ farm strips and other small strips are done by OZX and are FREEWARE. ORBX Has done Aus landclass etc. in four parts at $39 each. They have also done a few major airfields as payware. The mesh is free, not $100 as it is somewhere else
