REX;
ENBSeries HDR mod.
Ok, thanksSo no other mesh etc needed. Good to hear, always best to keep it simple

It would certainly benefit from a good mesh, but not required. I purposefully didn't mention a mesh above, as I know that Tim is working on one for VLC, but not too sure how this will work.

.......... But those who want to improve FS2004 to this sort of level can simply upgrade to FSX:)..........
.
You forget to mention a high spec computer system to run FSX without it becoming a slide show or missing out on the eye candy. It also requires another outlay of hundreds of dollars for new scenery and aircraft. If only an upgrade to FSX where that simple

That goes without saying...
but this isn't necessarily a bad thing, having to upgrade for FSX. Sure, it might need to be a long-term plan for some of us (I won't have a proper FSX system for a while) but it has to happen. I've bought a lot of computers in my life, most before I got into FS at all, and believe me, upgrading for FS would be a lot better way to go than upgrading because the old one died of old age...
Let's see if I can remember a few of them... and the all-important speed, which was pretty mindblowing to me for each new system:)
Commodore VIC20: 1MHz oh yeah...
Commodore 64: still 1MHz
PC-clone: 4.77 MHz, couldn't afford turbo...
80386: Don't remember the speed, but could have been 33MHz
Pentium 75: Not just 75MHz, but a Pentium!!!
Celeron 633: Had a family by now, so could only justify a budget Celeron, but this ran FS2002 ok.
Athlon 2600: This was the FS2004 upgrade.
Athlon 4600 dual core: All I could afford when the 2600 died, but not great for FSX.

As Rob said - each new release has always challenged the limits of the PC's we have owned. For some reason the leap from FS2004 to FSX has become a major sticking point for a lot of people. I can't understand when FS2004 is over 6 years old except for those who can't afford a PC upgrade. I'm still running FSX on a 4 Year old PC. FSX looks to be, for the time being, the last MS release of FS. Developers like myself and others will continue to design addons for FSX as most design tools are now aligned to that sim. Unfortunately trying to develop retrospectively for FS2004 is not an option.

Yes I can imagine that is the case as unless an add on (especially aircraft) are not native FSX then they are certainly lack lustre. Oddly enough though the push to FSX is mainly coming from the developers as in "if we build it they will (have to) come". I know of quite a few folk who have tried it (me included) and gone back to FS9 at least for the time being. Apart from the performance issue some things just dont look natural in FSX...too shiny and plastic looking at times and the there seems something wrong with ground shadows when I view some of the sceenshots. The big improvement I see is in the aircraft interiors. Some of the 2D and VC panels are just incredible. I think what will sway me to try FSX again is this VLC scenery.
Rob did you ever try the Sinclair ZX81?......a beast. 1 Kb of onboard RAM with an external plug in module of 16 Kb. All programmed in Basic language and if you managed to type out a huge program (and not save it to you common garden cassette recorder) and then accidentally touch the ext RAM ....poooff... it all disappeared.
Not only did I learn a little Visual Basic computer language I also learn t a whole new vocabulary of expletives!

For the first year of FSX, sales were roughly 50/50, but now, like most payware developers, I'm finding that FSX accounts for 90%+. I suspect that freeware may be different, in that those who stick with FS2004 tend to account for only a tiny percentage of payware purchasers.QUOTERob did you ever try the Sinclair ZX81?......a beast. 1 Kb of onboard RAM with an external plug in module of 16 Kb. The only thing which got me interested back then was the VIC20's colour display, but a lot of people I knew had the ZX81. Programming was pretty similar -- spend a day typing in a program listing from one of the many great magazines available, a few days to debug what you'd typed, and then play some lacklustre game for an hour... To play a purchased game from tape, I'd start loading it before tea, and with luck it'd be loaded by the time I finished the dishes -- if there was a load error, you'd just start over.
People wonder why I'm a bit more forgiving of today's computers, but we have come a long long way...

Well, NZ is what I meant, but if there are suggestions for world wide meshes then would love to hear

There is the free 75m mesh and a payware 20m mesh for NZ. Or just wait for VLC NZ or Orbx South & North Island (both payware) which will both include a 20m mesh.
