Well .. the videos of Tamworth and Melbourne looked pretty amazing too! Have they raised the bar yet again?!!!
I wish we could persuade them to do Auckland

I intend to wait and see if the problems continue before purchasing!!!

Hey Bob ... what's the general drift? Not sure whether cut 'n' paste is acceptable ... but just wondered what the problems were. I was sort of thinking of buying this ... as I've actually been in and out of YBBN a couple of times, but haven't a clue what Melbourne looks like. I didn't even know where Tamworth was till I looked it up!
EDIT: I did the "register dance" (it took around four attempts, hahaha ... but logged in eventually). For the benefit of others .... a LOT of posts, but basically along the lines of OOM (Out Of Memory) errors, lock-ups, CTD's all to do with the [amazing] level of detail in that particular add-on. ORBX admit that it's w-a-a-y more complex than anything they've attempted in the past.
It appears to bring most systems to their knees. Even after setting YBBN to lowest detail, many users are having to reduce many global FSX settings - which makes the rest of the world look pretty awful. I can do that easily without having to pay a lot of moneyLast edited by Adamski on Sun Apr 25, 2010 3:55 am, edited 1 time in total.

I must admit I haven't bought any NZ scenery for quite some time, but as I understand the big airports (AA,WN,CH) are all in the process of being done? but hope that these will fit into the scenery, as I would rather give kiwi's the money than the Aussies. NZ is still my home, I just ran away...
I'd rather you you gave kiwis the money too...
With its small population, NZ is a rather unique FS market. I think I know every FS user in the country:) But NZ doesn't really fit the normal FSX scenery business model, in that nobody is going to make a fortune by producing NZ scenery. I try, and I'll continue to try until they prise the joystick (for slewing only) out of my cold dead hand -- or until the debt collectors are lined up at the door:)
But I'm aware that an Orbx NZ would make it uneconomical for me to release NZAA, for instance. Even the announcement a month ago that Orbx has plans for NZ reduced Real NZ sales by 70%. That's just the vapour, who knows what an actual product would do.
On the other hand, I think that this is the most exciting time to be in FSX development, and the main reason is VLC. Most people don't realise what a coup this is for NZ simmers. I personally think that it could be what we have all been waiting for, but I'm well aware that it's success isn't the sure thing it was before a vapourware Orbx NZ was announced.

Personally I don't think you're too far off topic to warrant it being a problem, and as probably the most noted seller of NZ scenery, you probably know what you're talking about.
Not really knowing what the Vector will do, I haven't really followed it, but I also believe that between VOZ and ORBX (fs9 & X) have really put Aussie on the map. I believe that there are indeed enough talented people in NZ to produce airports to their levels. So why can't they get on board and do them, and benefit from the Orbx framework.
I don't know the politics, but yes your sales have dropped off, but I believe if you produced airports for the Orbx (payware) NZ you would probably see an increase. People are lapping up whatever area they work in, so surely it should help if you work within that as well?
Again, this is an uneducated person talking...When asked what I have contributed to on this earth my reply will be my daugther

Not if you answer the original question [is ORBX YBBN the best scenery] as "no - VLC is/will be"
I'm sorry to hear your sales have been dented. As you say, there really aren't *that many* NZ simmers out there - and we [the simmers] need to keep you [the producers(s)] in business or we all lose out.
How about discounts for bona-fide NZFF members (or is there some sort of a conflict of interest problem)? There shouldn't be a single NZFFer without a complete set of your sceneries!

This sort of effect on my sales is more related to the tiny size of my business -- I see the same result when mortgage rates go up a point, or one of my products hits the pirate sites. This buffeting is only to be expected, and I quite enjoy the bumpy ride. I'm well aware that Orbx would be a great framework for NZ scenery, and that the world-wide interest would only help us.NZ255 wrote:QUOTE (NZ255 @ Apr 25 2010, 04:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Have you been looking at the topic at FTX?
It seems that people like your work but it's not detailed enough for them. Now it is sort of funny because they all love detail (heck you can read the small signs on some buildings) but they don't like low FPS.....
Anyway if you can increase texture quality and add more detail etc like the updated NZTG (very nice) then you may see more sales and interest.
I don't mean to tell you how to do your job but I don't want to see you pushed out the way when Orbx come to town.
Yes, that's pretty much my business plan:) NZAA's progress depends on how you look at it -- I have some nice models, I have some really nice tarmac textures and markings, but there are about $2000 worth of resources which I'll have when I can raise the $2000:)Adamski wrote:QUOTE (Adamski @ Apr 25 2010, 04:33 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>![]()

I've tried this before, with almost zero take-up, but I know what you mean. I have actually done some deals with individual NZFF members, those who are cheeky enough to ask.
