Apart from the window? the sunroof mechanism needs a rebuild (not complicated, its a manual winder - worm and nut style), small amounts of surface rust (none structural, we attacked what little there was when I bought it). Small pieces if trim on the dash are missing, but its more of a time consuming rather than expensive exercise to track them down.
It has a small crack in the exhaust manifold, which all 5-pots are notorious for... not a wof concern, just an annoying tick under power. Parts are dime a dozen, its more of a pain in the bum to pull the head off to get to it (engine is tilted over to the right stopping access from above, lower arms and engine mounts stop you from going in underneath).

It's done 330,000km and uses almost no oil and has healthy, even compression (197-201 recorded across 5 cylinders) so there's no reason why with regular oil changes and servicing it wont see another 300,000km - there's a couple of VASKers in Auckland that are up around the 8-900,000km mark on the original engine, having done only oil, coolant, thermostat and cambelts...

Tempting.. Any idea on how much a mechanic would charge to fix the manifold? They are a sexy looking car, your one especially biggrin.gif

Hmmm $50 for a second-hand manifold, up to $50 for a new set of studs and a gasket.
The worst part would be labour really, at least a couple of hours to strip and remove the head... maybe an hour cleaning up the gasket face, half an hour cleaning and prepping the head and block surfaces and another hour or so for reassembly.

It's not going to get any worse in a hurry, and as it's not flooding the engine bay with fumes it's not a problem for a wof.
Besides... the sound of all the car alarms the regular exhaust note sets off will drown out the ticking cool.gif
It's not actually loud, but its a very deep note... Someone's comment on how deep it was and how it related to parts of the male anatomy are the reason there's a big old black ballbag swinging from the back ninja.gif

Oh good. One of the Vincent Pilots is a mechanic so I'm sure a box of Tui will convince him to help me. What I've been told I want right now is a reliable Jap car like a Civic that will cost almost zero to run and maintain, but what I actually want is a decent car while still being able to pay off the debts I owe. I still miss the sound of mum's old 2.4 5 cylinder Fiat so I'd count myself as keen. Are you able to email me a few pics etc? PM me or message me on Facebook and I'll give you my email winkyy.gif

Seconded biggrin.gif

I'm guessing for that price it's a non-turbo? I've had a drive of a Twin Turbo GTO (older shape than yours) and it was rather quick..

yea, non turbo. Wouldnt have minded a tt, but this one came up cheap and i seized the oppurtunity. Not every day you come across a classic like this with only 40k on the clock.

Mind you, this certainly is no slouch.

Fair few of them over in Aussie! biggrin.gif We just got back from Queensland yesterday and had an FG XR6 rental car for the week- we originally had a Holden SV6 and took it back because the olds decided it was darnation- we were all surprised to see how much better the Ford was! I spent a few hours behind the wheel and I might just be an ex-Holden fan converted to the dark side ninja.gif

Nice work! And very glad to hear its a non-turbo...
They were/are an amazing piece of kit, but Mitsi were trying too hard to showcase everything they knew with the turbo model - they love popping headgaskets, the twin-plate clutch makes a god awful racket and they have a nasty habit of snapping the input shaft to the 'box.

Had a mate buy one (I tried to talk him out of it...) and almost straight away the poo hit the fan with the ECU calling it quits due to some fool winding the boost up dry.gif
Sussed that out and then came the dreaded input shaft failure - Called Bay City Motors, the local Mitsi dealers to try and shock some sense into him by getting a quote on a new 'box (more often than not, the internals are shot from people doing dumb things with a 1900kg car) and sure enough, a new 'box would set you back $18,400 blink.gif

Anyway, the NA version like yours is plenty quick enough, and well planted through the corners thumbup1.gif

And now its for sale sad.gif

I've been accepted into the Airforce as an Aircraft Technician, meaning I have to go and do a course at NMIT. So I'm selling my car to help fund it, and I'd really appreciate it if you could let anyone in the market for something like this know where to find it...

$1 Reserve Subaru Legacy
