787 wing test

The 787 finally passed its wing structural test. The wing tips were bent up 25 ft from the normal position.
The wing must be capable of withstanding 150% of the most severe loads expected to be incurred in flight.
At the same time the fuse is pressurised to 150% of its max diff. Quite a torture test, and one it failed first time up.

Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

haha I was explaining the wing wobble to my girlfriend on our recent trip- She was a bit concerned at the wings moving (probably only 0.5-1m at the tip)... I should forward her this pic.....pretty extreme bending there!
