Nice!
Got some work to do yet but looks like it will be a great hideaway cool.gif
Helicopters can't actually fly. Their just so ugly that the world repels them. :)

Hi guys
just a little more progress
alternate air control that sits just down on the left wall by the pilots leg

first make the mold

then heat gun and squash into shape

add weight while it cools

cut hole in pit wall

paint and add lever made from mdf and marine red paint

fit into hole

make up signs ( will need to redo this one ) and retake the photo too!

another small step
cheers

some more shots showing some work around the door frame to get the shape a bit more correct

fit fill and bog

the real deal

same again to get the frame shape

again the real thing

long and tedious work to make the right shape

front of pilots window

overall shot of door frame taking proper shape

no charge
just somewhere to go fly - without airways charges, landing fees or avgas bills! cool.gif

it's been a while and I've not been doing a lot of flight simming but am trying to get back into it again
although I have not done a lot I have spent a little bit of time out in the garage making small amounts of progress when I can
this is some of the really fiddly bit and takes quite a while to go a very small distance

part of the panel cutout progress and some of the radios starting to be put together
I had hoped to make it all the correct sizes but it's just going to have to be "adjusted" in some areas to make the parts fit - as can be seen in the picture of the radios

Oh well it's a Simulation not a Replication ...

radio parts from Opencockpits.com
will post more as it comes to hand

cheers

Hey TG, is that Barron you got the photos of ZK-WLV?
The one that a guy out at New Plymouth owns?

Im doing my ppl/cpl out there, and if you want more photos of it, i could talk to the guy that owns it, see if i can get a few shots of it, and send them to you.

But so far, its looking great.

yeah it is WLV
he flys up here (NZAA) and sits on the ramp quite often so I go out and crawl over it whenever I'm going to /from work
but I'll keep it in mind in case I need some specific measurements at some time
cheers

well after a long hiatus of not doing anything on my cockpit and being quite happy, i have been granted, nae blessed with permission from the financial controller to build some panels, now i had done some thinking about panels, and i thought that with the plethora of light aircraft out there with the same hardware, yes you got it , glass hardware. i thought to my self in one of my sleep eprived moments, lets build two g1000's, a PFD and a MFD.

basics are a 12.1 screen size for both (sort of middle of the line size) with full working buttons and controls. I have got an open cockpits master card and expansion card on the way, the 2 12.1 lcds are on there way (ebay was my bst friend, got one for .99 and the other for $30, but i have to find an inverter and controller for the .99 one)

I have all most got the switches down, just trying to decide if i will mak my own buttons to custom size, or use a store brought cap, finding it hard to find retangular ones. I have setteled on the CTS 288 encoders, and will make some dual encoders out of two. just need to find a nav key and i will be all good. TG what encoders did you end up using?

i am in the stages of creating the surround and face plate, using software provided by front panels for this, makeing them in perspex, looks like costing me about $150 all up for both face panels.

will post some pics when i finally start building.

well i have finished the design of the fornt panel for the g1000, here are the design pics:

the audio panel

the back panel of the g1000

the left and right panels, now the left and right has been designed to overlay the back panel (gets the 3d effect)

all the panels will be made in clear perspex, and i will paint and letter them myself, the goal is i will paint white first, then mask the lettering and symbols, and put on a couple of coats of black, this should hopefully block the light from backlighting that i hope to do later in the project.
cost for materials and laser cutting it about 240usd, which isn't too bad, some local companies what to charge double that

love to know what you think

Jason
