My mates dad has one in their 'garage'. It's about 5-10years away from flying, but has a zero hours airframe (still brand new) and his father who is a turbine engineer is doing a full overhaul on the engine.

That's a LOT more exciting to me than another one for FS! Dude! Where? Who? Serial? Model? Very cool bit of news!

Can't really give out names, but they live in Dairy Flat about 3km from North Shore Aerodrome. Their garage was extended to be a 'hangar' that could accommodate the Vampire once the wings and tail booms are on, they had to get it certified by CAA as a registered place of aircraft repair or something along those lines - so it's a pretty flash garage!

All I know is that he has the zero hours fuselage, I think the rest is a very low hours airframe, for some reason 170hrs rings a bell but not sure if that's correct. Either way it's all getting built up into/onto the new fuselage. It's an ex-Swiss Air Force airframe so i assume it'll be an FB6/Mk6.

During the 94 Wanaka show a Swiss marking Vampire appeared , quite dramatic on Fridays training day , this one had the nimble nose recon version , since then it disappear from the airshow scene , wonder it its the same one ... a low hour Swiss bird tho , maybe since a major over-haul ?

The ex Swiss a/c is a diffrent a/c and its still here and its for sale (its actually a Venom). It has been advertised in recent Pacifc Wings and/or Aviaition News for sale.

I presume that it's the red painted one which I have seen lurking in a hangar at Ardmore.

That's the Venom. I remember that thing from the 90's when they had an evening Airshow over the Harbour with fireworks etc. was really cool!

I believe that the one my friends father has was originally destined to be owned by one of the guys killed in the Fouga Magista accident in the Firth of Thames.

Funny you should mention the harbour fireworks thing, I remember that too! It must have been fairly early in the 90s since I was pretty young at the time.

Venom! The Swiss machine you guys remember flying is actually a Venom, now reportedly sold within NZ.

The Vampire must be the machine imported in about 2000/01 by Sir Kenneth Hayr, member of the Yak-52 team and former Air Vice Marshal (I think...?) of the RAF. He was sadly killed in a two-seat Vampire - along with another gentleman - at the Biggin Hill Air Fair in mid-2001, so the Vampire has been sitting since then. I recall hearing something about a project to have her fly again, great to hear it is actually happening as I do quite like the singleseat Vamps.

That sounds about right. Unlike his father my friend isn't really into aviation and all he could tell me was that it was a 2-seater jet crash and the only one I could remember in the time frame was the Fouga, I figured he meant that it happened locally.
