Poor scenery quality

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby cowpatz » Thu Mar 11, 2010 9:06 pm

For some reason my scenery has gotten really bad. The image quality is very poor. This screenie is of NZAA but it is the same everywhere. any ideas what is wrong? I have even let the FS9 config file rebuild but still no change.

Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

You wouldn't happen to have recently installed any of the Megascenery addons would you? I remember when I installed one my scenery looked very similar afterwards.

No I have not installed any Mega scenery and I have tried changing the terrain radius setting. The only thing I have installed is REX. I have even tried to use the scenery config settings from my laptop but with no joy.
The problem is on a global scale and is damn annoying. I sense a dreaded FS9 reinstall sad.gif Still I want to move to Win7 so might be an opportune time.

I don't know about REX for FS2004, (although I love it in FSX) but does it install any larger than normal cloud textures? Sometimes this happens when one particular texture hogs the graphics bandwidth. What are your system specs?

Q6600 overclocked to 3.2G
4 GB Ram
ATI 4870
Vista 64

My laptop runs REX fine and is a lesser spec.

Thanks John I have tried those.
I have just bought Windows 7 so I may as well do a complete reload of FS9 as well.....make a weekend of it sad.gif A good chance to clear out the stuff I dont use although I have made many mods to various aircraft and I am going to have to careful with config files etc.

Oooer...would be interested to hear if you have trouble installing Addon Scenery areas through the FS9 Scenery Library on Windows 7.

I worked around this by adding via FS Navigator.

The same problem exists on FSX and its easy to get round. Once you click "OK" to add the scenery you need to right click anywhere in the white area and it will go back to the library with the new scenery added.

Yes it does work but in an odd way. Just browse to the scenery folder as normal (although it will let you go down to the scenery and texture folders within it for some reason) and click add. Then just select back or the folder up icon . When you go back to the library it will be there.

I get that but worse. Thats why im getting a new rig. I seem to get it when fling into airports with large files etc and my comp cannot keep up. If I pause and wait it finally all sorts its self out but once move on a few miles it happens again. was flying into EGBB the other night after 6hrs from the US and on approach at 4 miles still had no airport textures etc, no recognisable terrain features etc. On rollout all appeared and was sweet. Thats my 2 cents anyway.
Cheers,
Adrian.
