I am having a problem with the PMDG 744 when climbing out to cruise altitide. What happens is that the number 3 engine displays an error about the the ELEC Drive shutting down and then the engine goes haywire. Have tested it several times (including a light plane with no PAX or cargo and limited fuel) but the engine goes to sits around 25N1 and displays the ELEC drive error. It begine to appear around FL250.

Any ideas? It has been patched to the latest version. Fs9.

RTFM for this sort of problem, it may be an operational error on your part. May not though too.

ok, will go through it again. All engines work perfectly and it is only engine three everytime (happened 7 times) which this elec drive error appears.

Go into your PMDG task bar and look in the FAILURES section. This may be set to fail your third engine every flight, if so just clear all previously saved failures, Give that one a try wink.gif

Thank you will check that out. I checked the default failures, but have not had a thorough look through the entire menu yet.

Had a look at failures in the PMDG menu and the default fs2004, nothing was selected. Took it for a trial flight and it held steady at FL320. Then all of a sudden the error appeared on engine 2 displaying "ELEC Drive 2" "Eng 2 Oil Press" and "Bleed 2 off". It seems the problem has jumped to engine 2 from engine 3.

Do you have other PMDG products installed? I cannot recall the order but they must be installed in a certain order so as not to introduce these random errors.
The errors displayed seem to be associated with an engine failure. It is possible that the fuel system has been incorrectly configured, although the 747 should suction feed but with a small thrust loss at altitude.
Are you setting the fuel quantity via the PMDG options menu? If not do so as this will also correctly set the fuel system configuration.
Try that and if it happens again record the fuel quantity and which pumps are on and which are off and also the crossfeed valves. Also record the fuel qty in each tank.
On the fuel synoptic (fuel page on EICAS) you should have green lines going from tanks/pumps to each engine. if it is not showing or is amber then you need to reconfigure the system to make it work.
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

I recall a similar problem , as stupid as it may seem , what i did was run the default FS9 747 , mid-flight , get your fix done , make sure everything required is working then return to your PMDG 747 , save the file away you go , it will be a slight glitch between FS and payware , generally a good fix for most problems , from there cold start and all features will work .

Thanks will try those suggestions. Did check the fuel system and flew a trial flight with full tanks to rule it out - issue still appeared. I dont have any other PMDG products installed but have the Wilco 737PIC and the PSS 777 Pro.
