It's disappointing flying into an international airport such as NZAA at night and everything is pitch black i.e. the apron.

Does anyone know of any add ons that bring a bit of light to airports?

I totally agree. Also, runways in RL are visible at night from great distances. I know Heathrow can be seen from France!! Often, approaching an airport at dusk (when the runway itself is almost invisible) the lights only "pop on" when you're just about on finals.

Sadly I don't know of any

The distance thing is probably more to do with your 'area of detail' setting more than anything else - there may be some way to weasel around it so that FS lights are shown at a greater distance.

FWIW though I think you will find that IRL most airports ARE very dark at night, and only the required (minimum) amount of lighting is used so as to avoid night-blindness. I've seen a couple of videos with IR nightvision vs normal out the window, in side by side shots, and it's kind of scary how much the pilot CAN'T see out the window!

I know what you mean, though ... I've just read "A Likely Story", by Guy Clapshaw (trained in the RAF then flew with ANZ) ... and his descriptions of night training/flying are pretty graphic (or should I say *frightening*!). Let's face it, these pilots are seriously good at their job (thank God!).

So maybe my FSX at night is actually "as real as it gets"?

Night Lighting , NZAA is Default off course , and i have YMML , yip ... default .. custom .. default generally the airports are as black as hell , ya aim the plane at terminal ... easy if your ground crew , you get accustomed to light

I am using Ultimate Weather and it comes with a small program that changes all my Airports lights which has made a big difference.

Ian , now you mention that and Robin posting a screen of his incoming Supercity using REX , that is another program that has a light enchancemnet , enviro adjuster

Have just ordered REX 2.0 myself. I've been using another payware add on that's similar, but just isn't doing it for me. Especially when it comes to the water texture options and the clouds (maybe I just haven't configured it correctly). REX appears to be a lot better, especially as it includes its own weather engine

Ian, did you order the DVD or download the 4.13GB from flightsimstore.com?

It was the 4.13 download and i recall it was very fast , 1100-2.30 approx

Was only an extra $7 for the dvd, but I'm not sure I can wait that long. Would rather download the files at work than from home

It certainly made a hole in my monthly bandwidth allowance, but it was reasonably trouble-free to download. It's done in 650MB chunks, and I recall one chunk giving me problems -- it took three attempts to get it all. Still, it would be interesting to hear how long it takes to receive the DVD.

Will keep you posted. On a different note, I ordered an underwater camera case for my digi cam from the States (Came from a shop in Kentucky via Amazon.com). I ordered it on a Thursday afternoon (5pm-ish) and it arrived at work here in Auckland the next Monday morning. I also order fishing tackle from the States and it's usually here 3-5 days after ordering, which I think is pretty fantastic considering the distance.

Snail Mail can be strange here in Tasmania... I post something to Hobart and it takes 10 days.... I post to NZ and it takes 3-5 days.. go figure :-)

when i got rex2 I did the download and got the dvd sent and it was less than a week
good service and well worth the price

I definitely always get the dvd when there is an option as it is soooo much easier when the computer goes belly up and you have to reload everything

Does the weather engine load up the data from Vatsim, and does it do all the airports that are on there, i.e like NZWR, NZKK etc.
