IL2 North African Campaign

A single forum dedicated to all other non Microsoft flight simulation games

The lads have been working through a North African Campaign on subsequent Friday and Sunday nights. The maps and scenarios have been created by our talented mapmaker 'Woody' and are historically as accurate as possible given the map limitations.

Visit this Mega Thread on Kiwi Sim for all the details. We started in March and it has gained quite a following with up to 20 on line most nights.

Our very own Masterton Marauder Ace has taken some very nice screenshots that sum up the action quite well. This last mission was as follows:

Friday - After Rommel's repealed counter attack in January the front stabilises at Gazala.

On Sunday we jump to May 26 when Rommel's next offensive is underway, although held up at Gazal still, trying to cut off the coastal road, another large armored force has swung southwards to attack Bir Hakeim. Piecemeal attacks on both sides taking place here until the British withdraw on the 19th June, abandoning Tobruk against orders to hold the port at all costs.

At least Spitfires have made it to the theater finally, though followed closely by the new versions of the Bf109s, the Gustav.

Without further ado, here are Ace's pics (clickable thumbnails). If you are interested visit KiwiSim via the URL above.

Take a look at this thread. We have Kahu, Ace and KiwiBarGuy (R2D2), Adamski and myself as local NZFFers making up part of TFK (apologies to anyone I've overlooked).

Great shots!!!

This has been a great campaign to fly in the weekends. Although I have been mainly flying JU-88's and the JU-87 Stuka's the bombing runs seem to be just as exciting, especially when you jump in the rear gun turrets to take out the fighters in my 6 plane.gif

Just a couple of screenshots from Friday night's North Afrika campaign:

Dark Apostle and myself on patrol

A Mustang pilot is about two seconds away from jumping out of his skin (Dark and myself - hun's in the sun winkyy.gif )

Four 20mm cannon can do allot of damage at point blank!

...but then so can one smile.gif

Ah, on the first map we flew?...yeep.

Hurricane's can be very deadly but you'll need a height and speed advantage if you're going to take on a Focke Wolf 190 - it's definately not the kind of plane you want to find yourself in front of!
