Something else for you to consider is that as you are relatively young, the NZ Police may well decline your application and ask that you to reapply in a couple of years time, so that you may gain what they call 'life experience'. This is what happened with my application, which I submitted at the age of 18.

So I joined the military police in the RNZAF, which would give me the 'life experience' I required - and combine it with my passion for aviation! Little did I know that it would turn into an 11yr career!!

My time in the Air Force also allowed me to play a number of competitive sports, see some of the world for free, and led me into a 6yr flying career on the iconic UH-1H Iroquois!! And that's an important point to bear in mind. You have the ability within all three branches of the military (Navy, Army and Air Force), to 'remuster' should you want to try your hand at another trade - or even serve with another branch (Subject to recruiting and aptitude requirements).

I will treasure dearly my memories, experiences and camaraderie from my time in the RNZAF. I still keep in contact with many of my friends from the military (Such as ZKIWI!!) and will be attending the 3 Sqn reunion later next month!

Best of luck!!
Mat

Thanks for the links. That is something to keep in mind my age. Ive just had a look at some of the jobs in the RNZAF and the one that got my eye was the Air Security Specialist.

air security is one of the cooler jobs they offer. im pretty certain they have the authority to arrest anyone on a military base for reasons of NZ law infringment. (correct me if im wrong). there are alot of great jobs though. i really want to be a CIS technician. they go EVERYWHERE the air force goes

They can detain anyone on base. If a civvy is detained, they are handed over to the NZ Police for processing. Air security gett to go to all the overseas deployments (they are probably the most travelled trade in the RNZAF) and exercises as ground security for the aircraft and for the camps.
They are probably the most 'Army' like unit in the RNZAF - the recieve the most weapons training. They also get all the feild craft training that the average army grunt gets as well.
Air security are also the RNZAF instructors for NBC training, and weapons qualification.
You can also become an RNZAF Dog Handler.

and they do the drill and cerimonial! yay!

so yea, detain was the word i was looking for. as you can see though, there are heaps of jobs that are very similar if not better than the NZ police.
