As far as what Adamski was talking about in his first post, I understand where he is coming from. But in this paticular case, the photo was taken with a camera worth approx $300-$400, from the ground at the Ohakea Open Day Air Display (which from memory was free entry, or very cheap if there was a fee). So if you think about it, its actually a lot cheaper than the PCs required to run FSX etc.
Personally I don't have FSX or FS2004 currently installed on my PC, as I prefer IL2. This usually disqualifies me from entering these screen shot competitions, so I thought it was really cool to have a chance to enter. And before anyone says 'he won an msfs prize, yet doesn't use it', my Dad has FSX on his computer, and its going to him. I think he'll really like it.
You guys are MAINLY a Flight Sim community, but the real world aspect of the community is also quite booming, and I feel that this months screen shot competition was to honor this. There were lots of great entries (I should not have won! Some were AWESOME), which shows that there is interest in having competitions for these real world shots.
So I really would like to see more real-world shot competitions, perhaps twice a year is enough. It maybe is unfair to you pure simmers, but if you think about it, you really do have the rest of the year to enter.
Also one comment I'd like to make; I'd really like to see other sims allowed to enter (you might not officially be stopping them, I'd have to check the rules). For example, IL2 doesn't have a New Zealand scenery, but we can make New Zealand skins for the aircraft, and recreate the spirit of New Zealand warbirds flying in New Zealand. I think this would bring about a few more entries.
Just a thought however.
Again thanks to all who voted for my shot, I hope it does us proud up there. Now to set Dad up in his new Carenado Aircraft...
