Message for Robin re Trackir

Hi Robin, I have just re-read your review of Trackir4 pro as I am contemplating purchase to enhance my FS2004 experience.
My question is; do you continue to use Trackir most of the time.

I thought id answer this too just to give abit of depth ,i use mine everytime i fly ,i would not go back to the way it was without it ever again it is part of my sim just like my joystick /or the software ,and it will work for many other sim games aswell and well into the future as i use it for FSX now ..
like robins review id recommend a TrackIR4 to anyone and would say its a must have piece of sim equipment ..

I use TrackIR for flying -- although this isn't as often as I'd like, because I tend to work all day on scenery, and TrackIR doesn't work well during the day unless I shut the place up tight. By evening I just want to get away from the computer, but when I do fly for fun in the evenings, I always use TrackIR.

I am using a TrakIR 4 with a Matrox TripleHeadG2 digital edition and 3 22inch wide screen monitors and as both creator2003 and Robin say it is a brilliant piece of hardware.
I would consider it a more important piece of hardware to get than a yoke and pedals or instruments if you already have a good Joystick.

I have now received my TrackIR and finding it quite difficult to get used to - It is very sensitive to my head movements. No doubt I will get used to it.

Go into the settings and have a play around in there you will find that you can slow down the movement and the distance that it moves etc.

Make sure you assign something that you can find every time without looking as the key to pause it - I use the mouse wheel button (you did know that with most mice you can click the wheel as well as the buttons, right ?)

I know it sounds stupid but make sure you have it set to the flight profile and not default. It only takes small movememnts of your head to look around so you can keep looking at the screen. I have only had one of these for a week now and am loving it. I have had to rearrange my computer so it is not looking straight towards a window behind me but other than that it works a treat and works regardless of time of day and light conditions. I got the trackplus pro headset with it so that clips to my headphones and removes the need for a cap or hat.

I did a VFR flight this week and did some of it at low level and it works awesomely, enabling me to look around and clear my wingtip during some valley turns.

One drawback is that i was looking around so much that i almost made myself airsick. I have felt that way before in the Huey sim which is a fixed base and graphics so that shows how realistic the TrackIR can make things. After 7000 hours in the air necer feeling airsick and a sim with graphics that don;t agree with the seat of my pants instinct can do it.

I find that i use the TrackIR during taxi, takeoff and approach and turn it off for the cruise. I have allocated a button on the Saitek throttle to turn on and off and calibrate the TrackIR.

Awesome device, well worth the money and brings an entire new experience to flying.
