You are invited to the new Godzone Virtual Flight site

The official REAL NZ support forum

Postby toprob » Wed Apr 01, 2009 10:47 pm

The site will be officially opened later this week, but forum members are invited to visit the site ahead of the opening.

The new site includes a new Godzone Store, which now sells downloads of Real New Zealand products, as well as the existing CD products. It is great to be able to sell downloads in NZ dollars, as the currency fluctuations lately have meant that downloads via SimMarket have increased in price. Selling in NZ dollars means that the price won't vary based on the state of the economy.

To celebrate, I'm giving forum members a 30% discount on any product within the new Godzone Store. Remember, this applies to the new store only, although the old store is still open!

This discount will remain active until midnight Friday, NZ time. To claim the discount use the code 'QUARK' in the coupon code box. You can use this discount on any product within the store.

At the moment I've discounted Auckland City for FS2004 by 50% as well, so using the forum discount brings the price down to $11.55 for the download! That's the cheapest price you'll ever see this great old scenery.

Single scenery downloads are generally $10 less than the CD equivalent, so Wellington, Marlborough, Rotorua/Tauranga and Southern Lakes Adventure are all $33 each, which means a price to you of $23.10 with the forum discount!

Other products:
Across the Strait download with discount $38.50
FS2004 Collection (CD only) with discount $55.30
FSX Collection (CD only) with discount $84.00

To enter the site, please use this link. Bookmark the link if you wish to return to the site before the official opening, as the new site is not yet linked.

If you have any problems using the site, please let me know. In particular, I'm interested in any issues with database errors, time-outs, or 404 (missing page) errors. Please let me know what you were trying to do when the error happened.

Thanks, guys.
One thing I forgot to mention -- there is still plenty to do on the site, and one thing on my todo list is to show file sizes for downloads. Be aware that some of these downloads are big -- Southern Lakes Adventure is the biggest single download, at 607MB, so be aware that you'll need a good fast connection for a reliable download.

Great effort on your new website, well done. clapping.gif

Rob, is your store up and running yet? I can't log in to get your specials. Do we have to re-register? I want Southern Lakes to add to my collection.

Cheers

Yes, unfortunately there is no way for me to transfer accounts to the new system. The new site has details on the new sign-up process -- see the News page for details.
When you make your order, you will get the choice of signing up to the store or not. You pretty much have to enter the same details if you choose not to sign up, but it does mean one less account to worry about. Signing up, however, will give you access to your order history. But it won't give you access to the old store order history.
Make sure that you usethis link to enter the site. Going to the old site and entering the Store will bring you to the old store.

EDIT: one other thing -- the new Store does not include the old upgrade discounts-- yet. These will come after the official opening. This is to give me time to rethink the upgrade process now that downloads are an option.

Damn you Robin, you would wait till the day after I make an order on the old site to announce that tongue.gif ...
Just joking, great stuff. Nice clean layout, like the breathing space around the content. Snazzy slide-show widget there too, some Javascript trickery?

ps - loving the FS2004-collection, TOTALLY transformed the experience for me, Tauranga, Rotorua and Wellington especially where I spend a lot of time in the Sim.

Site looks good, I should be purchasing a new scenery soon. smile.gif

One problem I do have, your old store has the ability to remove products and get a discount. (E.g. For the FSX Collection, if you have Welligton you can choose the to be excluded a save some cash)

I did mention above that the new Store does not include the old upgrade discounts yet. I do have a wee problem to solve here, in that it is possible for someone to select the upgrade discount, pay with Paypal, and download the scenery before I have a chance to figure out that they are not entitled to the upgrade.

By the way, the old Store does not have an upgrade discount for the FSX Collection or the FS2004 Collection. It did for a short time when I released Southern Lakes, just for those who had bought the old Collection though.

EDIT: It is still possible to get the upgrade discounts via the old Store.

Are you going to put all the scenery tutorials back on?

Some are not all that relevant any more -- they became obsolete when we started to figure out how FS2004 design really worked:)
I am in the process of reviewing them, and anything which still makes sense will be put back up.

Ok, I've now come up with an upgrade strategy.

The savings are just the same as the old store, but it's handled differently. Each upgrade offer is now a separate product, accessible from a special upgrade product page. This page is linked from the main store page.

CD orders are handled as before -- I check that the upgrade applies, process the order, and ship. The order will show up as an upgrade.

Downloads will need to be activated manually when I process the order. The way this will work is that if the order includes a download, I'll swap out the upgrade product with the actual product to activate the download.

This is now live, so go order your upgrade:)

EDIT: when I say the savings are the same, I really mean that the percentages are the same -- if you choose a download only, then it is a bit cheaper.

Love how you're updating the 'news' page constantly! You must have had more news in the last few days than ever before!? tongue.gif

For those that want to, just click this link and you'll have the RSS feed setup for the news page. In Firefox it sits in my "bookmarks toolbar" and every time I click it, there's a new item to read.

BTW Rob, those shots of Wellington look great! Good to see you are getting the most out of your scenery! laugh.gif

Hey, Rob ... great to see you're using Joomla! I've created many a site (over the years) in it ... sort of stuck with it. It's become a tad "bloated" with 1.5 .. but some of the add-ons are awesome!!

Nice clean layout!! thumbup1.gif
