NZFF Community Poll

Read and write about updates, changes, or any issues regarding the NZFF website and community

Postby ardypilot » Fri Mar 20, 2009 6:09 pm

Hi guys-

We're nearing our third year anniversary and latley I've been thinking about ways which we can expand NZFF and make the browsing experience more enjoyable for you members.

Please take just a few minutes to complete the poll above- don't worry, all votes are completely anonymous- we are just interested to obtain a general consensus on a few points raised in discusions among the admin group, which we can base any future descions on towards the beginning on year three in April.

Also, feel free to reply to this thread with any feedback/suggestions/opinions or whatever you feel could make NZFF a better place.

Cheers biggrin.gif

overall a great forum, love the topics, would like more real-world but still lots here anyway.

keep up the great work guys

question 9, the one about the uploading to other sites makes us seem like traitors. theres no plain yes, just upload to other sites or NZFF, lol

Thanks for participating everyone- some interesting results. Mostly what I expected to see but a few surprises... look out for a few subtle changes in upcoming months with reguards to the votes- for example, 'Real World Aviation' has simply changed to 'New Zealand Aviation' now just to sound a little less cheesy.

Feel free to continue submitting any further suggestions.

Not intentional- more for the professional photographers among us who have big collections on Airliners.net, Jet-photos etc.

Notice how in questions 3 and 4, the responses "yes" and "I answered yes to question 3" respectively, don't add up. tongue.gif

It's actually quite hard to find any *obvious* improvements clapping.gif ... I think the whole system works really well - congratulations to all concerned. There are probably many features that few of us really use ... but if it ain't broke ...

One idea - and I'm not how feasible (or even desirable) this is ... an "Instant [text] chat function" for users that happen to be online - where users could flag themselves available/unavailable. This could save a load of PM'ing.

I'm only half convinced about it myself - as it sort of goes "against the grain" of a *public* forum - but then we do have PM's, don't we?

Yep ... but what I was thinking was that when a "conversation" is written into a thread, it's there for all to see - and there could be info in there that would help other people at some future time. If these "conversations" move to a chatbox, they'd be lost.

what about archives, generally chatboxes have an archive page you can go to to have a look through the past convos. great for modding because if someone reports something wrong you can just go check it up. also i think that chatboxes should be for just that, chatting, and all else can be made into a thread like normal. you are right in thinking theyd be lost, i think a few less threads would be made because of it. just a suggestion smile.gif

'Like a shoutbox?

In IPB v3 the PM system will be overhauled. There will still be the option to use the system as it stands now. The new option would essentially be a private thread between the sender and the recipient, you will be able to invite other people into the private conversation.

Yeah not really the best having a chat box due to it being very hard to mod what is said on there ,or harder anyway ,with posting in the forums you have more time to think about what is said before you type and can edit your post later if you want too..

I have seen the side chat boxes ,they do look like cool things to have just dont think it could be modded very easy ..

there is a TS channel that can be used ,which does have a chat box aswell as comms so that pretty much covers the live feel to the forums ..

is it just me or is it a bit silly to have photography in a screenshot competition? this is a flight sim community if you want real world stuff at least run a seperate photography competition.

If you have thoughts about the contest - fire them off to us at nzff@nzff.org. The more feedback we get the better choices we can make. winkyy.gif
