Screenshot voting

I think some people just vote for the people with the most votes in the screen shot competitions sometimes if they can't make up their mind about who to vote for. I know I've done this before icon_redface.gif

Can you disable the 'look at votes' until they have voted?

This may make it a bit fairer.

Edit: What better way to decide than a vote?!

I remember on the old forums for a while we disallowed people from seeing the results until they had voted. Some people got a tad unhappy about that, but perhaps now is a good time to reconsider that decision.

I'll quickly append a note here. We can't (easily) actually stop people from looking at the results. What would happen is that a 'null vote' will be added (i.e. your vote won't be added to any option) if you view the results.

Well this forum is just a newer version of that software; and some of the same limitations apply.

Almost all of the 'free' IPB forums are versions 1.3.0 or 1.3.1/b (which were among the last versions of IPB software to be released as freeware). These have a couple of widely-published SQL Exploit vulnerabilites which make them slightly undesirable to use given they can be cracked by persistent hackers. NZFF uses version 2.3.x. Version 3 is in the final stages of beta at the moment, and I'm interested to see what changes it has in store.

what about hiding the votes altogether and at the end of the month bring them up so we can see them?

Would rather vote blind, then it is a true unbias vote.

I belive you should see the votes after you've voted yourself.

I voted to keep it the same ....... you see a shot you like , you vote for it ! ............... if you followed a person into a butcher shop , and that person brought sheep brains and liver (lambs fry) YUK ! enough for the month ... would you buy the exact same because you followed him into that butcher shop ! .....

I can't really see this as an issue -- there are how many votes each month, 50? That's a fraction of the membership, so obviously all voters have enough interest to make up their own mind. The sheep just don't vote.

There are plenty of other ways to rig the vote. Canvassing for votes is one way. However I think that it is 1000% more likely that the vote would be skewed by entrants voting for a poor image so that they are not voting against themselves by giving an extra vote to a great image.

I admit though that I find it hard to support the screenshot comp because too often someone gets it into their head that it is unfair/rigged/whatever. It causes by far the most amount of dissent, when really people should just relax and enjoy it.

I agree,

I didn't realise people were getting upset about the comp.

I find it interesting and enjoy the shots shown.
