i really really want to use the object placment tool in fsx. i have installed acceleration, the sdk, sdk sp1a AND edited the dll.xml file. it currently looks like this...

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>

<SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">
<Descr>Launch</Descr>
<Filename>dll.xml</Filename>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad>
<Launch.Addon>
<Name>Object Placement Tool</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
<Launch.Addon>
<Name>Traffic Toolbox</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Traffic Toolbox SDK\traffictoolbox.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
<Launch.Addon>
<Name>Visual Effects Tool</Name>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
<Path>C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects SDK\visualfxtool.dll</Path>
</Launch.Addon>
</SimBase.Document>

i have rebooted fsx and the computer and i still cant get 'tools' to show up in game. its worked beofre but after a few reinstalls etc, things have been changed

does anybody have ANY ideas as to why this will not work?!!!

You haven't mentioned the SP2 SDK update, which I think is on the Acceleration DVD. Have you installed that?

the only two things on the acceleration dvd are "SDK" and "SP1a". and when i click sp1a it uninstalls the sdk and reinstalls it with sp1a anyway. so i have everythign (to my knowledge) necissary to be downloaded

Ive always installed the SDK from disc 1 then inserted acceleration X CD and installed SP1 SDK ,and then the acceleration SDK ,, each time you do this it will ask to remove the older sdk ..

to install FSX you install DVD 1 DVD2 then Acceleration which will update auto to SP2 ..

Ive had problems myself with the SDK this week , it came down to the ddl file for me but reinstall or repairing the sdk finally got it working ,though i reinstalled FSX again aswell as the sdks after the first attempt didnt work ..

plz let us know what it was when you get it working winkyy.gif

WOW. that was frekin wierd. i reinstalled FSX, Acceleration, SDK... AND THEN inserted x pack dvd and installed sdk on that disk. the gui is different and it says it is the "acceleration SDK" so there is obviously a difference.

then i installed sdk sp1a (which said it uninstalled previous sdks anyway) and the tools option now shows up. i didnt have to re-edit dll.xml either. it stayed the same

ADVICE: install in this order...

FSX Disk 1
FSX disk 2
Acceleration
FSX Disk 1 SDK (yea, i know you have to change the disks lots)
Acceleration SDK
Acceleration SDK SP1a

i have a question though. once i have placed an object and saved it in .xml format, how do i use the bgl compiler tool? the .exe file wont open and ive heard you're supposed to drag and drop the file onto it, which wont work.

BIG thanks for your guys' help also

Werid that its working, it should be sdk one disc 1 then sp1 from acceleration disc and then the acceleration sdk ,,but anyway if it works it works ,,
once saved to xml file drop the xml on the bgl comp and you will see the bgl will be created in the same folder as the xml ,then just reload and the scenery should be there ..
good luck and welcome to my world biggrin.gif

i think the reason why it wont work is because im saving them as mission files. how do i save them a scenery? the drop down box doesnt have any other options

On the 'Mission' tab, you will have the choice to 'Save Scenery'.

wow, i must be missing someting lol. when i click that, im kind of... saving nothing. it creates an xml which contains only

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<FSData version="9.0"/>

sad.gifi have placed the object etc. it IS sitting on the ground

dragging it onto BGLCOMP.XSD does nothing. it just changes the order that the files show up in

What are you trying to place -- are you sure it is a Scenery object? That's the only Object Type which will work as scenery.

You need to drag the XML file onto BGLCOMP.exe, the .XSD file contains the XML schema only, whereas the exe does all the work...

well, thats the first problem solved. i was placing a "mobile scenery object" i didnt realise there was a difference.

now i have an xml file that contains...

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<FSData version="9.0"><!-- Library sceneryObject: 0170847EDh, 04D7E50F7h, 0A9A7C582h, 0CD165751h --><SceneryObject lat="-41.329878" lon="174.807486" alt="0.000000" pitch="0.000000" bank="0.000000" heading="0.000000" imageComplexity="VERY_SPARSE" altitudeIsAgl="TRUE"><LibraryObject name="170847ED4D7E50F7A9A7C582CD165751" scale="1.000000"/></SceneryObject></FSData>

but i dont have a bglcomp.exe file. only bglcomp.xsd and bglscan.exe, both of which do nothing when the file is dragged onto them

Do you have bglcomp without an extension? You might have your system set up to hide known file types.

EDIT: sorry, I didn't think that through -- if you have bglscan.exe, then you can obviously see exe extensions.

nope. those are the only files (beside the help html which doesnt help at all. and an images folder) i am using vista and right clicking the BGL compiler SDK folder tells me that it is both writable and there are no hidden files

You could try reinstalling FSX sdk in the order ive said above ,this mite fix the problem ,i usually just back up the ddl file first so it is no problems getting working again ,there should be the bglcomp exe in the folder you said C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\BGL Compiler SDKbut if not i can only think there was a sdk install problem or you have deleted somehow ..
Ive searched the net for the bglcomp download and only found bglcomp2 which is a 2004 tool and no help ,you mite give this a search yourself and see if you can find the very small file you need .

man, this is so stupid. i reinstalled AGAIN and now i have bglcomp.exe. dragging the file onto it opened command prompt very quickly and no file was created. so i did it through command prompt and got these errors...

INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR: #C2623: couldnt open file: ggg.BGL (thats its name)
INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR: #C2585: unable to create output file 'ggg.BGL'.

any ideas as to how i can fix this?

So you save the scenery xml file right ?from the object tool mission tabs,,,then you go to that saved xml and drop it right on top of bglcomp exe and it will show a brief prompt window and a bgl should be made in the same fo9lder as the xml file ..
This bgl file that is made then goes in its own folder ie myscenery with two folders in that one scenery/texture.
Or you put the bgl in tha scenery folder and activate it in the scenery library manger ,or you can just put the bgl in the addon scenery library scenery folder ,they will work ether way as long as there is only 1 bgl of that name activated ..

anyway try this way upto the error and tell me how you go ,if this doesnt work then you could send me the XML file you have and ill see what happens when i put it through my bglcomp..
dont worry we will get this going im sure

the bgl file is never made BECAUSE i get this error when doing it in command prompt. when i just drag and drop, the command window opens and says somthing indestinguishable (as it is too fast (lol, my name)) and then closes, and no bgl is made anywhere

If we can see the XML code, then at least you'll know whether it's the code or the compiler causing the problem.
