Nothing you havn't seen before..

Passing through the spotters carpark on Puhinui Road this afternoon, I caught the whole family of ANZ Boeing jets, one after the other, in correct size order, in the space of about 15 minutes!

Small:


Medium:


Large:


Supersize:


I stayed for about half an hour and also caught two QF craft and the LAN Airbus:






The international helipad seemed to be very busy aswell, with choppers too-ing and fro-ing over the threshold to the Aviation Country Club the whole time I was there- even the red Helipro Squirrel was up and about which I've never seen round these parts before. Was there something special going on today that anyone knows of?

Well they are,.. but have you seen the GE90-115Bs on a -300ER or 200LR,- up close ? Far out they are some huge mothers.

Look at this one straped to a 747, I mean there is only one word that springs to mind when looking at these things and it is not suitable

That thing looks like it is just about to eat the (quite large) 747 eng sitting next to it

NZAA have interesting feature, that you can stand there for 30 minutes, and you caught absolutely nothing, and for half an hour caught a lot of interesting.

The thing that would worry me if I was landing it, is the apparent lack of clearance between the bottom of the engine casing and the ground - although it's probably exaggerated by the camera angle...?

Or to quote Duece Bigalo from last night- thats a huuuuuuuuge b*itch! Will the 787 dreamliner have the same engines as the 773 then?

Check the airport flight arrivals webpage to see what flights are arriving when- most busy seems to be early morning / late afternoon.

I also read the NZAA ATIS to make sure 23L is active, otherwise it isn't worth the trip for me, because my camera has a terrible zoom for 05R landings.

As far as I am aware (but not too sure dont quote me) the 787 has a development of the GE90 wacked on, supposed to be lighter and more fuel efficient, no bleed air etc so not the same. I think it is also a bit smaller that the -115B, perhaps the same size as RR trents on the smaller 772. I think there is (or was) a trent destined for the 787 as well ??
They were supposidly gonna put the GE engines off the 787 onto the 747-8 which should look pretty big !
