These are shots I've taken so far from Indonesia, and Papua, great variety here, makes for some fun flying. Hope they're alright to go on this forum, I apologise for the quality of my photography, still learning.

Interesting Pictures you have their. Do you work in aviation in Indonesia?

Next time, try making the pictures a little smaller, like 800x600.

Sorry about the picture size, i'm still learning, don't worry they will be smaller next time.
Yeah I'm working in Indonesia, currently in Papua where I have spent most of my time, but I have also had basings in Borneo and Sumatra, the company moves employees around a lot, I'm on those nice vans you see in the pics, some are getting old but I'm loving flying them (as ahem, a copilot), but it's proper two crew here, half the legs, someone does nfp someone does fp duties, it's part of the law over here to try and make everyone safer. That An-12 3 months ago had all its instruments and was looking almost salvageable, since then throttles have fallen off and instruments have been mysteriously disappearing (wouldn't be surprised if some indo aircraft were using them as spares), there is talk of restoring it, but it would take a heap of work to get it anywhere near airworthy.

Those are some really great shots - gotta love those classic utilitarian Russian fans in the AN-12.

Wow thats really cool! It looks like a very interesting place to build up those flying hours, similar to PNG I would guess. Are you a New Zealander, or a native to Indonesia? Was it hard for you to get a job? Whats the lifestyle like, 7 days a week working?

Awesome shots! Any aviation photos from South East Asia are always really interesting due to the huge variety of different aircraft types in use. Travira Air has really nice looking aircraft, some more shots of them (or any Indonesian aircraft! biggrin.gif ) would be appreciated. winkyy.gif

yeah, it's a good job benwynn, better living conditions and more stable politically than PNG apparently. I'm a Waikato boy, found the job on AFAP, was the easiest interview I ever did. Lifestyle varies depending on bases, if you're in Sumatra or Borneo, or especially Jakarta, then you've got the nightlife and all the fun things with a bit of a twist from home. Papua is a bit more isolated, lots of nice beaches though, and the people are pretty relaxed, bar the children who swear and throw stones when whitey goes running. Work is supposed to be 6 on, 1 off but that never happens, again it varies, right now I'm on 1 on, 2 off. Here's all the other shots I have for now VAC, they're a bit smaller about 800x600 this time.
In Pic 5, see if you can name all the types there, see if you can do the same with pic 3 in the first post.

Wicked wicked shots, what a sweet assortment of machines. Love the state of that Antonov, would make a fun Repaint exercise to put all that weathering on it.
How long you been in the area? A mate of mine from the Waikato Chris.R was there until about two years back doin the same thing.

Well in shot 5 I can see a DH Caribou, Antonov AN-28 (I think..) Transall C-160, DH Dash 7, MD-82, some kind of Merpati 737 and right down the back an ATR-42. Am I right? biggrin.gif

I've only been here 7 months dee, so unfortunately didn't know your mate, we've got 2 other kiwis in Papua as and 5 other kiwis around the company, I think we're the best represented country here. Na, unfortunately Ian, I haven't experienced PNG yet, just indo Papua, that's Biak, an island in the north west of Papua, huuuge runway, 3km (well, huge by paps standards). All I will say for guesses for each of the photos is "correct" or "not all correct", don't want to give them away, unfortunately VAC - not all correct ( I will say name the 7 aircraft in the photo, one is pretty hard).
