Parallel Runways

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Goff_nznr » Wed Dec 10, 2008 10:01 am

I've got 2 active parallel runways. I have AI Chipmunks using the 2nd. runway, (the aircraft variety), but they were fussy about runway length, so refused to use it unless I made it longer.

Does an aircraft 'cfg' or 'air' file determine the minimum length of runway required? If so, then I guess it could be altered. Maybe I could somehow get ATC to recognise it as STOL.??

Cheers,

Goff

Aircraft parameters are primarily in the air file, but can be modified in aircraft.cfg.
I do hope this is not a widespread problem, as there is an upcoming GNZLAP Chippie pack which goes to normal-size airfields.

Charl,
i have Chipmunks (2) in my little project and I have noticed that both seem to make a high approach
and then obviously go into an overshoot, they dont go around because they overshoot and then carry on going.
I will try a different a/c airfile then run them again and see how it goes.
They take off from relatively short fields but definately have a landing problem.
Will let you know my findings

as Charl says, it is mostly in the .air file.....there is a section in the .cfg file which you could play around with and see if it makes any difference

Thanks, Charl and Timmo. I will fiddle around. Turns out the minimum length required of the "Chippie-only' runway in my project is 2550ft.

Cheers,

Godfrey

AI won't use a runway under 2500 ft so it has to be at least over 2500ft to be uesable for AI.

Thanks, Markk. Should water runways be at least 2500ft also? It seems they work ok at around 1200ft, so maybe that's ok for floats.

Just found this from another forum..in case others wish to know:
fs9.gif
Single-Engine Prop -- runway length => 2500'
Twin-Engine Prop ---- runway length => 4000'
TurboProp ------------ (same as Twin-Engine Prop)

Jet empty weight =< 99,955 lbs -- runway length => 5000'
Jet empty weight => 99,956 lbs -- runway length => 7000'
