Air 2 Air photos from Ardmore open day.

Here are a few shots from the weekend.
Flew with 9 aircraft all up and its nice to be invited back again to photograph a few more in the future.

The Citabria is being flown by noted Air 2 Air photographer, Mike Jorgensen and it was great to finally meet him.

Great weekend with good weather so we got a fair bit done.
Will post a few more photos once I get round to sorting them all out.





















Finally, camera ship pilot, Andrew Hope, top bloke and good pilot.

Amazing pics Gav, were these all taken after the main show as I noticed -CIT was parked over on the grass by the tower for the duration of the main performances?

And yeah, Andrew Hope is a top bloke- first time I went 'inverted' was with him in the above mentioned aircraft

On second thoughts, if Mike Jorgensen was flying the Citabria, then what a/c were you in, as that last pic is clearly Andy in the backseat of CIT??

Ian I think some of my attempts at colouring in old aircraft must cause you actual, physical, pain
But look what I managed to cobble together while wandering around the Warbirds hanger!

Congratulations again Gavin on a fine photoset.
Where did you manage to find a bit of diffuse light I wonder?
On the day, the midday sun burnt my pics to a washout/pitch black contrast.
You even managed to make the Miles look sexy!

Can someone please put me out of my misery - the half-a-Stearman 853 is a what??

Its a Ryan PT-22 with a Kinner Radial engine - there is another Ryan PT-22 (an STM model) at Ardmore with an inline Menasco egine but I think it is currently under rebuild after a forced landing. They were used by the USAAF during 30's & 40s for primary training.

Correct - although the inline model was known as a Ryan STM (not a PT-22 STM as I mentioned above)

I believe changes from the PT-22 was that the wing of the STM was moved to allow for the shift in the CG and there were some other obvious changes such as the wheel spats.

Looks like the STM is ready to fly again

I love reading and re-reading the "Wingman" posts...

Just to answer a few questions, the Harvards, Citabria, and Messenger were photographed late Saturday afternoon.

I took the photos of the Citabria from the Messenger and Andrew flew the Messenger for me however I did get some hands on while waiting for the Harvards to arrive on the scene so that was nice,.

I think the Messenger is a great looker as well.
Havent seen one looking quite like this before.
A few control inputs are needed by both aircraft to get this angle and the photographer needs to get out in the breeze a bit but its worth it.
Have practiced it a few times lately and the results seem to be worth it.
