rulefull VATSIM

For everything about online flying around New Zealand

Postby JLAU » Mon Nov 24, 2008 4:49 pm

I am quite new to VATSIM with all its many flying procedures and regulations
and I am still unsure about what to do. For now, I will stop using Vatsim but
will get in it when Im ready.

I used to fly alot on multiplay on adhoc basis, we dont use vatsim rules,
we simply got into a server and flew all over Australia - it was fun!

Of course we had flight schedules and plans like the ones organised by
Trolly and others (thanks to them). But we seldom had any ATC in attendance!
Hope to look for more such no-rules multiplay games in NZFF smile.gif .

I agree with what you said about the rules at VATSIM, but remember that VATSIM strives to make the simulation experience as real as possible, and that means using real-world procedures, although adapted, in the online flight environment.

It is a big learning curve, but one that is definitely worth it in the long run winkyy.gif

I started flying on VATSIM when I was 11 years old; now I'm 18 yrs old, a Student Pilot in real life with about 70 hours flying experience.

At the end of the day you will only get out what you put in winkyy.gif

VATNZ are the New Zealand division of VATSIM, their website is here.

They have regular newbie events, including some VFR tours around New Zealand. The pilots and controllers strive to be welcoming to everyone, and are more than happy to provide plenty of advice to newbie's smile.gif

Their forum is here

Whenever an event is on its always posted in the VATNZ Events forum, and here on NZFF in the Multiplayer forum

Check out those links, and as I said, don't be afraid to ask for help, we all have to start somewhere winkyy.gif

Matthew said it all really, Vatsim is intended to be as close to real life as possible, and in real life you have rules when flying. There's nothing stopping anyone doing their own multiplayer without rules. Some like it one way, some like it the other. As long as fun is had it doesn't matter what ya do smile.gif

Agree.

I am just a lazy fellow when rules and regulations are concerned laugh.gif

You know I used to hang around virtually with a group of Euro virtual pilots. It was my
first experience with a VA after I 'graduated' from MSFS flying course.
The VA was Redscouse, a Scottish setup. The owner
is a very nice Liverpool fan. He incorporated his little VA inside his
Liverpool fanclub website.

We flew multiplay regularly with a bunch of kids. And there was this German
boy who always sat in as the ATC whenever he was allowed to (by his mother!).
He was only 12 years old then! We used Teamspeak and sometimes I can hear
our German mate (cant remember his name now) fought with his little brother
to take over the ATC chair laugh.gif But he was a very good professional ATC , for
his age. biggrin.gif That was several years ago.

Sadly, the site disappeared and my attempts to locate the members have
been unfruitful. Miss those guys !

So, if you happen to be an ex-Redscouse pilot I like to hear from you biggrin.gif

If you have any questions about VATSIM and don't want to join the VATNZ Forums straight of, feel free to fire some questions my way, I think I probably know a thing or two about it.

I am sure Mark invented Flightsim - or was it flight itself? Some credit the Wright Bros or Richard Pearse but those in the know tap the side of the nose and wonder "I wonder what happened to that Mark Richards bloke? I heard he's now in Australia somewhere ..."

I have alot of respect for Mark Richards ..... I know of his great contributions to FS. clapping.gifsmile.gif clapping.gif clapping.gif clapping.gif
I think this little confession and speaking my mind is making many people agitated, sorry ! santa_cool.gif

Last week when I logged in Vatsim at my home base, not knowing that the other person was an ATC ,
So, I submitted a flightplan and proceeded to taxi to take off point when this fellow screamed/ shout/ said
'WHAT ARE YOU DOING!".

Anyway I was soon in the air, where I was continuiously disconnected from Vatsim.

So its my fault, hmmm... I didnt know much about VatSim and that atcs can 'cross airports'. Because wherever I went
I got ""disconnected by host pirate.gif
