Forum technical problems

Read and write about updates, changes, or any issues regarding the NZFF website and community

Hi! I wanted to post a "techie" problem ... but couldn't find the right place for it. Am I senile? Couldn't find an appropriate place ... so here goes anyway ...

For some reason, I'm missing new post emails to my "subrscribed" threads. I get new ones - but don't get other subscriptions - even after visiting them. This used to work fine - and I haven't changed my forum habits ... so I'm wondering if there's a problem somewhere. Anyone else had this?

I've moved this here, as the description of this sub-forum is:

"Read and write about updates, changes, or any issues regarding the NZFF website and community"

This is certainly an issue regarding the NZFF website.

Right place right here. winkyy.gif

Could you explain the problem a little more? So, you are getting new post emails when you subscribe to certain threads, but you aren't getting them when, for example, you subscribe to a forum? unsure.gif

Alex

Thanks for the help, guys! winkyy.gif

*New* topics come through happily - I get about a dozen of those a day (or whatever). It's the ones I respond to - or even start. For instance - I didn't get any for this new thread. I'll check that I'm subscribed (when I finish this reply) but I imagine that creating/posting a new topic automatically subscribes you.

Anyway - difficult to be more specific - I'm diving in and out of various topics as I always used to - and I used to get a fair few notices of subsequent posts then.

eg. The last message I got was "Setting up Saitek Flight Yoke and Throttles" received 19 Nov and one before that (different thread) around 14th Nov - threads started *months* ago. I've put in my 2c worth on dozens of *recent* threads (including the Nov screenshots, which I'm keeping a watchful eye on <!!!>). Nothing on that one at all - yet it's been a pretty busy thread.

I'm just wondering ... I have an RSS feed reader/scroller on Firefox. Quite often when I don't actually want to visit that feed/page, I simply right mouse click on it to make it go away. Could it be that that is being interpreted by the forum as a "visit" - just having received the RSS feed?

Just checked *after posting* this message. Yes, I was subscribed ... so that's as one would expect winkyy.gif

To add to that - it's not SPAM detection filtering them out - as I have it set in "manual" mode at the moment so I can check if my server-based filter may be trashing legitimate mail, so I'm getting *everything*. Anyone want any [more] Viagra??

No, I'm pretty sure just visiting the RSS feed (and marking the feed as read) doesn't affect anything here on the board.

Just double check your subscriptions (you can do this under My Controls>Subscriptions (on the left hand-panel)), to make sure that they are set to Immediate Email notification (I think this is what you want smile.gif). As you can see, there are a few ways to set up subscriptions... wink.gif

No Email Notification
This option will not send out any email notification but will retain the topic or forum in your subscriptions panel.

Delayed Emailed Notification
This option will send out a notification if a new topic or reply has been made and you're not active on the board.

Immediate Email Notification
This option will send out a notification immediately after a new topic or reply has been made regardless of your activity.

Daily Email Digest
This option will send out a daily digest showing all new replies or topics for that day.

Weekly Email Digest
This option will send out a weekly digest showing all new replies or topics for that week.

Thanks for that, Alex. For some reason most of them had got set to "delayed". I did a select all and set them all to "immediate" ... then set the default action as immediate.

Maybe the board threw a little wobbly a while back - because that's the way I (think) I had it ... and I was getting them fine up until a few weeks ago. No matter - I'd be very surprised if they're NOT working now - thanks for all your help! Now I can watch my email box fill up again laugh.gif

I'm not sure how much work you have to do behind the scenes, but the whole system seems to be working a treat. Much appreciated!
