As i said in another topic, temporary im living in Kiev(waiting for visa), so first of all some photos of Borispol(KBP, main airport in Ukraine, but really poor, it has only 2 airbridges, 2 runways(one is 3500m, second(new one) is 4km and able to handle all aircrafts, but airport is not certified for 747/380 due to small park standings, however authorities start to construct 2 new terminals(one for low-cost airlines, wizzair ukraine is now based in Kiev, Air Arabia jst started her service to Sharjah, and GermanWings are going on spring, and D terminal for International flights)) Ill put some photos from ukrainian spotters site. If you will be so kind to recommend image hosting ill put my photos there. So... Kiev spotting, sorry for quality it was my first shoots that i release:
Its aircraft of Ukrainian government(they have 2 Il-62m, 2 Tu-134, and 1 An-74TK300, on spring they are going to recieve A319CJ)

Aerosvit Airlines going for another try to land

just arrived from Brusseles, first CIS airline to use 737, and not USSR aircraft at all

quite rare thing, LH 735

Alitalia to Rome

Aeroflot to Moscow SVO, now they and UTair send to Kiev 154, other(Pulkovo aka GTK Rossiya, and S7 retire 154 from their fleet)

Ukraine Air Force on AN-26

Compare to AKL, KBP has bad weather all the time, when its sunny, its going hot air from the ground(and when you are taking fotos at 300mm they are in poor quality) or its cloudy, and sun is only when its no landings/take offs

For first time in Kiev, ive caught A330 with "Hasidic" charters(in September Hasidic Judes are coming to Ukraine due to their religion, and that period is paradise for spotters, 757. 767, 747, El-al, and other Israel airlines)

Great photos... some 'unusual' types included in that lot... I suppose they are really common there!

And is it just me, or does the tail on the El Al 747 look a little wonky?? I'm thinking that the blue/grey stripes are throwing the perspective off! Optical illusions FTW! dry.gif

no its illusion. By the way the same day it was departing of Sweden King on Il62, president Tu134, with emergency landing in 30minutes, after that he took off on Il62, and prime minister on charter and 74-300TK was for delegation PLUS 2 747 and 2 767 EL-AL, Delta 767 and three Aerosvit 767, it was crazy day for Taxi controller. And no aviation security etc, full clutter in airport
PS due to religion Hasids, does not have shower 1 month before going to Uman(their final destination in Ukraine) and El-Al and other airlines cover their seats with polyethylene and after flight for 6-7 hours are ventilating aircraft

Ooooh ... smelly!!!!! dry.gif I'm intrigued - what happens at Uman? Is it a shrine of some sort? Can they shower after the pilgrimage? Amazing how different religious customs can be! Loved the pics, BTW winkyy.gif

yeah there is shrine of their moral leader. In one week it is coming more than 20k pax from Israel. In Kiev for that period construct special terminal "X", its like big tent, with all attributes(security etc)

Always sad to see airframes rotting away, think of the care and time that went into engineering them...

Ian, I agree the 154 looks great - one of the sexiest main gear setups seen on an airliner winkyy.gif

d3, how "Russian" is Ukraine? Do people living in Kiev identify more with Russia or the West?

In East part its too russian(( Mostly(80+% depend on the regiona)they are speaking russian and they love that country, love soviet style etc. West part is proeuropean, opposite situation to the West(ukrainian language and most of all want to be a part of EU). Kiev depends on age group. Seniors are more "comunistic" they r prorussian group, but younger are more likely to join EU instead of Russia. However Kiev is very special region, cuz its very big difference in life quality Kiev/other cities, but rent and prices for real estate are huge for Ukraine.

The Tupolev in the last photo is an amazingly beautiful aircraft, especially in that livery.

AviaSvit 2008, airshow at Gostomel Airport(i think 15-20km from Kiev), where is base of Antonov Airlines. It took place in the end of September, i have nearby 8-9 gb of photos, mostly light aviation, but i need to edit them. The show was 4 days long, first 2 for specialists, and other two for public, ive been there for three last days(i missed first day), from big planes it was AN-22, AN124(on photo, arriving as service somewhere from Europe), An225, from smaller An74, An140, An148. An70 and An12 i took photos as they where static(there some shots from cabin)

Here is a prove of reg:)

About re-engined... no that is fault idea, just changed the cover, it gives less noise, and it is settled only on An124 that regularly flying to EU, to other countries where is less strict rules about noise, they send "usual engined" Ruslan, it is D-18T aka Stage 3

I think the An225 is one of the most beautiful planes to come out of Russia.....Big (HUGE!) but still elegant.
