Nvidia 178.24 Drivers

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Holy $#!T... Anybody who hasn't got the latest drivers from Nvidia is in for a real treat drool.gif
Until tonight I've still been on the 169.25 drivers, since the 175.19 set had made my FS into a slideshow representation of virtual flight, or a jagged collection of polygons sad.gif
I've had ActiveSkyX and XGraphics installed for quite some time, but haven't used them much since the clouds ate into the FPS in a big way... even normal FSX clouds take a hit if they're visible.
Tonight, I fired up FSX and Xgraphics, picked a random theme and expected the same old slideshow - Anything but! 25fps solid (I locked it at 25 anyway) with the 512x512 cloud res, water fx set to mid 2x and autogen set one notch from max biggrin.gif

In the crudest terms possible, its like someone gave FSX a good kick up the ar$& ninja.gif

Thanks for the HU, d/loading now...I'll try these on FS9 too, I'm looking for a little more crispness.

Am running those drivers on FS9 but can't really report any improvements, however I am getting about 40 FPS and was happy enough with things prior to upgrading them anyway. Certainly worth a try if anyone has a specific area they want to improve.

Do you guys run Nhancer as well? I am getting no AA with these drivers (probably why I've been running old drivers for so long)
I have a 7950GT card by the way.
(and this with FS9)

I don't see any difference in FS9.
Well, on restarting the sim ran at 11 fps which gave me pause for thought...(Normally 60+)
I re-installed Nhancer and redid the FS9 profile which mended things.
I reckon some of the older drivers are better in FS9, just can't recall which was the sweet spot.
Alister: try Nhancer AA settings and untick in the sim.
8-series cards are just the opposite for some reason.

Thanks Charl, I'll give Nhancer a go. About time I caught up with the times. Cheers.

Yep, running nHancer as well.
Cant say I've tried FS9 with this driver, but i will do when I do a fresh install on the other pc.
Probably the biggest improvement for me was the fps... normally it fluctuates between low to mid teens and 25 - with these drivers it was SOLID 25 throughout normal flight, and a drop to 23 during some high speed panning to check for any texture "popping"
Seems to have brought the clouds out a bit more as well, more 3D than before thumbup1.gif

Hmm,

I got these the other day and found no difference.
Guys make sure you remove your old ones first before installing these new ones.

Very important.

I'll have to definitely try these ones, as FS with my current set is a real pain. Thanks for the heads up. thumbup1.gif

Used to be the case, but I don't see mention of this any more.
It was a real pain to have to strip back to vanilla VGA, restart, re-install etc etc
This time I asked the Nvidia website to scan my computer, recommend and download the latest driver, and install!
