General whine/bleat ... postings ... FS9 or FSX?*!

Read and report on flightsim developers progress of upcoming or completed products

Postby Adamski » Tue Oct 21, 2008 3:32 pm

[bleat mode ON] For posts in general areas, is there any way we could encourage people to state if their add-on (or comment) relates *specifically* to FS9 or FSX? I've lost track of how many times I've read about some scenery or aircraft - and often downloaded it - to find that it's for FS9 ... and I only have FSX. [bleat mode OFF!]

I'm not sure what the percentage split FS9/FSX for NZFF users may be - but I'd guess that there'll be a fair few on FSX now.

Yeah good idea- FSDeveloper has a little radio button which allows you to choose what sim your question is about. Obviously this would only be relevant for certain parts of the forums

I totally agree it is only two words that have to be added like for FS9 or for FSX then you wouldn't be downloading an add-on that you don't need.
I have both but find that my FS9 is getting used far less as more good add-ons for FSX become available.

As a matter of interest ... have we ever run a poll to see how many are running which version? Could be quite illuminating!

Maybe the "smileys" could be amended to include FS9 or FSX buttons? That way we could either add it inline in the message - or even add that smiley/version to use as a "Post Icon".

Here ... I went off and made some! or ... or even

Fair enough comment Adamski. smile.gif

I suppose though the issue is not that people can't label a topic as FS9 or FSX-specific, but rather that they don't. There is a whole host of places where you can say whether your post/topic is about FS9 or FSX; in the actual 'Topic Title', in the 'Topic Description' (both of which are viewable from outside the thread), or even in your post content. I feel that putting a whole host of new options in (i.e. radio-style check boxes) wouldn't really make a huge amount of difference, except perhaps to very new forum members.

That said however, I do like the idea behind your little icons. When I have some free time later this week (or in the weekend), I'll see if I can put those in somewhere as an option. smile.gif

Agreed to all of the above. I seem to remember last time I played with setting up a PHP BB, that you could customise/add your own smileys. That's probably the easiest option all round - for setting up and for users. Do you want one for [gasp] X-Plane as well?

I think just the FS9 and FSX ones would be good Adamski. I'm not 100% keen on the FS9+FSX one for two reasons, it'll push out the individual thread if it's used (mis-alignment), and also that if the add-on is for FSX and FS9 then most probably it'll work on almost anyone's machine anyway (where most people have FSX and/or FS9 installed). smile.gif

Usually with X-Plane it's reasonably evident without any icons to what sim the post/s are regarding. smile.gif

Cheers,

Alex

Here's a test (FSX selected as a "Post Icon")! Whoopee!

Thanks, Alex! thumbup1.gif

For anyone looking to save time with these when using in the body of a post, don't forget the text equivalents:
Code: Select all
:fs9: :fs9x: :fsx:

Saves you at least 2 nanoseconds winkyy.gif
