BRISTOL FREIGHTER FOR FSX -- UPDATE

Read and report on flightsim developers progress of upcoming or completed products

Postby shmbry » Wed Jul 02, 2008 8:07 am

As it's been a while since my last post I thought I should post an update.

As the model became more detailed the strain on my old PC was beginning to show with compiling taking anything up to
20 minutes, but it was rather a low spec machine:

1.4 Athlon and 512Mb of Ram, just enough to run FSX

Consequently since my last post I have concentrating on building a new machine which will hopefully last me a few years.

The new machines spec's are:

Asus KFN32D-SLI-SAS Motherboard

2 x AMD Opteron 2218 2.6 dual core processors

2 x Asus 8800GTX in SLI mode

1.5 Terabytes of storage

Windows Vista Ultimate

Although it's not blindingly fast, yes it is fast just not supersonic, it is extremely capable and can run several CAD programs, FSX
and anything else I can throw at it simultaneously. I'm still tuning FSX but up till now I have achieved frame rates of 28.

So now that I have transferred all my programs I should be able to get back to some modeling.

Here are a few screenshots taken on the new system. The most obvious things are smoother anti-aliasing and higher
detail scenery. The scenery is Godzone Real New Zealand Marlborough.

drool.gif ohmy.gif 2 8800GTXs in SLI... plus 1.5 TB of storage - puts my current 80GB + 120 GB and planned 320GB + 120 GB to shame.
In the last pic, the fields look almost real.
Looks good so far mate. Though the Bristol is a it weird looking.

On watching a RNZAF Bristol on approach to South Vietnam , the US base commander looked gapingly gasped and said "Is that the aeroplane or the packing case it come in "

I was really looking for a FSX scenery patch for Robins Real NZ Marlborough that places the Bristol freighter in its park alongside the MAC club house

I guess that the NZ Retro AI would work to some extent in FSX -- this is what you install to get the Bristol showing up in FS2004. I don't recall if I included parking in the FSX version, but that should be easy enough to fix. If someone has tried the Retro AI packs in FSX, or is willing to try them, then let me know.

If it works, I'll check the parking, amend if necessary, and upload the flightplan to place the Bristol.

I have the original afcad for the bristol and it does work with fsx.
Have also updated the old afcad adding the spitfire beside the aviation museum for fsx. (it is prob not the original plane but the free Alpha sim spitfire !)
Finally an afcad for the Argosy across from Woodbourne .
Drop me an email or message and I will send you the update
cheers Kiwiusa
this is one of the original pics.have made a few minor changes to the postion of the spit but haven't updated the pic yet

Oh, and while your at it Robin, is it possible to replace that old building with the new Soundsair hangar ?

Perhaps this should be posted under the technical section, but does linking 2 duo core processors together give the same effect as buying one quad core????

And does the same apply to graphics cards as well???

Perhaps 2 X Quad core processors could be what I need.......

smooth landings.

Not sure where it's parked in Real Life ... but here's an old FS2004 model I tried in Robin's FSX scenery. I think she's a beauty!
