Reading more about this a/c - I think this maybe THE penultimate freeware aircraft for FS9 - what the Realair Spitfire did for FS9 piston engine warbirds - this would appear to be the jet warbird equivalent - except its free! ..some of the people involved Jan Visser (MAAM DC-3, B-25 etc), Rob Young (Realair, MAAM etc).

....pictures from the Section8 Sabre web site

and the features......

Fully functional 2D panel and Virtual Cockpit
All switches and handles work in 2D panel and VC
Full working and authentic looking radio stack in 2D panel and VC
Optional full IFR capable instrumentation
Extensive check list and aircraft status windows
Authentic start-up procedure including power-cart
Photoreal textures inside and out
Automatic wing slat operation depending on speed and attitude of the aircraft
Aircraft roll rate and agility depending on speed and altitude of the aircraft
Working ( or not working, depending on the skill of the pilot ) hydraulics system
Dropable fuel tanks
Removable stick in Virtual Cockpit
Working guns with muzzle flash and tracer bullets effects
Extendend soundsuite including brake and tire-scrub sound
Fully animated and authentic looking pilot figure
Parked mode with wheel chocks, fluttering RBF flags, in- and outlet covers, pilot gear on wing
Special FX suite including, heath simmer fx, 3 stage exhaust flame fx, and typical J-47 smoke trail

Seems a pity that Kirk Olsson did such a fine F-86...
You're right - this one will peg it.
I looked at the Manual which is already available online, and this wil be a memorable experience...
I would go so far as to say this could ONLY be a freeware Labour of Love, payware could never recover the amount of effort in this one.
Edit: AND they're doing an FSX flavour one as well!

The OZ F86 .. nearly 65-70 per cent change in airframe with engine and weapons , a hole total different ship -

Can Kirk Olson match a Jan Visser .. I don't care , The effort from both these guys thumbup1.gif .. within there own rite spectacular .. Kirks86 is still the show beater even compared to payware . smile.gif

So im very interested to see what Jan has to add .. his work with the MAAM B25/C47 and recent Avenger for FS9 .. think we are in for a treat cool.gif

Ah THERE you are!
I thought if this didn't draw you out, we'd have to come looking... winkyy.gif
The danger here would be to create an expectation that can't be met - by anything.
But I'm enjoying the anticipation, no matter what...

I have been looking for a decent F-86 for ages and this fits the budget to!

This has been in the making for about 2 years I believe - the 'soon' word has been used since January!

FSX users don't hold your breath but it's guaranteed to make you open up FS9 occasionally - it's apparently that good.

I am told it should be out this week...

Further proof that FS9 ain't dead just yet. I still use it for IFR flying as I get such better frame rates in the clouds than FSX - this will have to go into my Warbirds stable for stress relief after those nailbiting approaches! BTW - awesome screenshots and editing!

It would be great if we could have a repaint of the model in the colours of our local Sabre - which I have sat in a couple of times......

Don't think so from what I've seen but then someone with time and money might do it up. smile.gif

The Sabre at Classic Flyers is pretty well knackered as a flyer ... there are other Sabres in NZ and at least one is been restored to flying condition for an American owner.

not sure if its true but i have been told there are at least two in crates up here at ardmore but almost no airfield in new zealand is long enough to handle the take off role, accept aa international, chch. I know however that the emergency power for the northshore is as ex sabre turbine engine.

Theres plenty of airports in NZ capable of handling a Sabre

Sabres take off run (depending on model):

Takeoff Run Over 50-ft obstacle (ft)

F-86E - 3870 ft
F-86F-10 - 3925 ft
F-86F-30 - 4720 ft

Tauranga airports main runway for example:

07/25 ----5,988 ft

Do you fly online (Vatsim)? It would be great to have some more real life ATC'ers!
