hi guys i would like to note that iam testing the scenery in fsx in the hope that i may or may not be able to bring it into the new era of flight simming as i enjoy the scenery alot but the hassle iam having is the tree and shrubs have a black box around them . i tried correcting this problem by deleteing the default ones Peter had and replacing them with fsx default trees and had no success.also the second problem is the ground mesh is something very shocking in fsx but i hope to have a go at fixing these my self with guidence from knowledgeable pepole on this forum so please note that this my first try at this and if i master it i may look at doing some extras for my own use . so once again any help would be taken onboard with very open ears.

many thanks

I cant really help to much but i will explain acouple of things take in mind i am not looking at the files nzqn ,,in the queenstown scenery folder you will see scenery and a texture folder ,,,the bgl files in the scenery folder are placement files or the model bgls but they are normally easy to work out by the size of them ,1kb or close to that would be a placement file and 15kb up would normally be a mdl bgl file which is the model file exported out of gmax in fsim data ,so if you are looking to take a object out you would look here and go for placement files ,say with luck there would be a trees bgl than i would take that one out seeing they dont show up because of a alpha texture problems between the 2 sims ...
so i would go and take anything that doesnt work out including a afcad file and rebuild the area with fsx default trees and object and remake the afcad new from the default one ..

pretty much i would if it was me add one file at a time to the scenery folder and wait till something goes wrong then fix it then add another till i have a airport that works ..
qn also has photo textures so there will be placement files in tha scenery folder they should work so i wouldnt touch them ..

good luck

always make a back up of the folders you are working on winkyy.gif

what ground texture are you referring too? the photo real around queenstown or some textures around the airport that could be ground polys that you could only remove if they dont work or afcad that you can mod using afcad type tools

it's the ground mesh that handles the grass and dirt but i doun't what the name is
i tried your tip and hand the texture looking better but with very poor frame rates rangeing from 1.2 and under but with the defaulat fsx i have at least 30 frames so i am thinking that there may be a way to use the scenery objects to inplant them in the default fsx layout

yeah I found that with the Queenstown Scenery too- Im guessing it may have been made with something other than the FS9 SDK which is why FSX spits the dummy. Ive just disabled all the scenery bgls and kept the photo scenery. My aircraft crashed whenever I pointed towards the airport even when 30 miles away?

Yeah i had the same thing happen at some old godzone scenery the file that i removed was a AF2 or something like that and the flps went from about 2 to 50 again in the area ,me thinks its a afcad type file that is way over due to be removed for FSX ...

anyway see what ya can find

i think i will keep tinkering with the files and see what happens.the other idear i had that i had for fixing was to see if there is way to copy and paste the scerery into a fsx supported program and use it to build the area on the fsx graphics format

There are not many ways i know of to convert fs2004 scenery to FSX without the source model files ,i always start with the photoreal textures because they are some of the best part to any scenery then buildings ,,after that i would build a new afcad runways etc .. if this doesnt work then its a full rebuild one day for the area by someone ...

Good luck Jas

Yeah mite be a idea checking out Robin Corns site for tutorials on simple Gmax for beginners ,in one way or another building it sometimes yourself will be the only way you would be happy with the level of detail you get ..
textures are the biggest reward to the look of the scenery so make sure you get lots of photos to work with ..
Gmax and putting scenery into the sim can be hard to start with but just stick at it and you will get there ...
