Long Distance Flights

What sort of flights are you into? Shorthaul flights, longhaul, trans-Pacific flights.

The type of flights that I enjoy are simulating aircraft ferry flights around the globe.

I fly short flights (eg: NZWN-NZCH) because of the following reasons:

- I have more landings/take offs this way - good for practice
- More practice of flightplanning / navigation calculations
- Even if I'm not a kiwi I started flightsimming here and decided not to leave the country with my planes as this place is full of amazing sceneries. (I'm from Hungary and I've never flown in Hungary)
- I fly smaller birds from 50's-60's and they are not really for long range
- I'm just another human with days of no more than 24 hours. Can't afford to fly 4 hours after work.

I prefer short haul airline flights, less than 4 hours in length:
Prefer jets to props
Prefer USA and New Zealand routes.
Prefer twin jet Boeing and A320s

I like Medium to Short, so between say 2hrs and 8 max. I do like little beechcraft runs though!

Well I do all sorts really. I go through phases of liking different planes, places and lengths.

I'd say that most my flights are short-haul city hops from NZAA to NZWN, NZCH ect, either in the Beech 1900 or for the longer ones in the Wilco A320. However, I also like to do the long-haul runs over night. Basically late at night I'll take off headed for some Asian hub and then wake up in the morning and land. It's really good fun, you get to know that the plane has really flown the distance in real-time on the sim, but you get to skip the cruise.

I heard somewhere thats actually how some airlines manage their flight crews? Basically have one crew do the take-off and landing sections and another crew does the cruise.

Yeah, on long flights its a SOP, but usually not on asian flights from Australia, not sure about NZ.

The Captain and FO fly for so long, then the Second Officer takes over. Hes a newbie pilot and can only fly the aircraft above 10000 feet.

I spend more time preparing nowadays for my flight around the world, checking terrain, actual weather reports for the day, where i am flying to, navigational checks, which makes each leg more enjoyable. World trip takes alot to prepare but is well worth it! I have been on it for a year and i'm still only in Indonesia.

When i download new freeware i always check it out on this the canada 19 m terrain mesh found here http://www.simviation.com/simviation/stati...D=147&page= I really like flying around British Columbia/ Western Canada, great mountains, valleys, airports big and small!

Lastly i need my filling of New Zealand so will often meet up with Gojozoom (Daniel) for some single prop cruisin!

That sounds like fun - online flying with other NZ simmers. I just got me a new C150 to try out so i might do that if i knew how

I love all sorts of flying, whether it be a quick circuit of an airfield in a C150 or a long-haul flight halfway round the world in an A380 Super-Jumbo....not to mention participating in an airshow now and again

I tend to break up my long haul flights into 3-4hr stints...the longest I've flown non stop in FS would be around 6 hours.

Depends how much time I have up my sleeve at the time...

Weeknights I might settle for a quick cruise around NZ
Weekends on the WSP servers, usually 6-8+ hours trawling over the European skies in box formation re-creating various raids from WWII

I can't cope with longer than AKL-WLG. It's ok IRL, but there's just nothing to look at in the sim.

Ha, I nearly gave that up overall, ended up just setting FS so I could alt tab and do other things

You can do that? If I try to then FS will pause. How can I do that?

I've just upgraded from flight simulator 95 to flight simulator X and would like to attempt a Tasman crossing. Any tips or ideas?- I'd like to keep it under five hours for my first trans-Tasman and would prefer not to fly in a supersonic plane.
