Blurry scenery

I've finally got my new PC running well. I'm installing and customising my AI and putting in some of Lawrie's neat airports, but I have struck a major snag.

I'm not blaming Lawrie's scenery as I had it running nicely on my old PC, but since I put in a few of Lawries airports, along with all the EZ scenery libraries etc, my scenery keeps blurring out badly - everything blurs, the aircraft included. Anytime I have one of Lawrie's airports in view the scenery blurs, any time I pan around my view too much the scenery blurs, and any time I change views it blurs. I can get it back by hitting 'refresh', but it is only back until the next time I change my view or pan around the view. If I am approaching one of Lawrie's airport I cannot get the scenery unblurred at all?

As I say, I don't blame Lawrie's scenery, but I have obviously done something in the process of installing that scenery that has upset something - but what?

It's definitely not a lack of grunt from the PC as I was running FS9 maxed out and FSX wound right up too, but I can't figure out what I have done. Any clues anyone?

Steve - I haven't followed that thread [yet] but I certainly recognise the symptoms!

I'm not sure that it's specifically related to Lawrie's scenery. I think it's more of a general memory problem. I find (with my FSX) that I'm fine for a while - particularly after a clean boot - but if I run it after playing something like BF2 (my other addiction!), my scenery starts looking like porridge and many objects don't appear. Gets worse with time (predictably).

Much of this is my own fault - as I run my sims in exactly the opposite way to most of my friends: I *totally max out all settings* and then gradually tweak the inevitable slide show till I find something that almost flies. Even so, I have frequent graphic corruption and CTDs. Worse ... I have all sorts of memory hogging add-ons (like Ultimate Traffic) that I can't bear to turn off! Frankly, I'm amazed my FSX works *at all*!!!

So ... to cut a long story short ... if there's anything you can do to increase available memory - both globally (system-wise) or within FS itself then I'm sure it will help. I've tried dozens of tweaks but found that most of them introduced an element of instability ... so I tend to revert back to a relatively default looking config. Also - some aircraft (depending on the gauges used) can be pretty tough on memory. Try the same scenery with a default MS aircraft and see if that makes any difference.

[color="#0000FF"][/color] A yeh gidday mate. I dunno if you did this when loading Lawries airports but you have to delete some textures when you install. He refers to the blurries in his installation notes and tells you which ones and how to delete so just go back to the installation notes and follow his directions.
As for increasing overall performance ...adjusting Fs.cfg file is one way but you have to be careful what you adjust. There are examples on line people have given that works to some degree. Have a look. Just google... "adjusting fs9 cfg file" or something similar.

Alex, it was the replacement textures that you pointed me to that did the trick. Much appreciated!

I'm now spending my time following Fletchers around the hill strips, and experimenting with what aircraft I can get down safely on some of the shorter strips - great fun

Glad you got it working, Steve, I've also experienced the dreaded "Lawrie blurries" from time to time, and it can be very frustrating.
Just to add a complication, if you add other sceneries which use the same files as you have in the Static Objects Library, you could get stuttering, and in the worst case, terminal blurries, depending on how the sceneries are prioritised.

I run a file duplicate hunter every so often (such as Find all Duplicates, by Gerard Durand).
This creates a backup folder in each scenery for duplicates found (which are then at a lower priority.)
I then take everything in the Static Objects backup and put them back in the main Static Objects folder.
That way I know they are at a higher priority than any other dupes.

Last time I did this I found 700-odd duplicates scattered all over the place so it was worth the exercise.

Good you got it sorted Steve. Just sorry i didnt notice this post earlier.
A lot of scenery makers that use all the freeware object sets available for EZ Scenery, include the textures with the scenery uploads for the conveinience of the downloader.
This can, lead to many problems (as Charl has mentioned), and is the reason i DONT include them with my sceneries,(unless they are CUSTOM textures).
I would reccommend anyone taking Charl's advice and running a duplicate finder like he has mentioned.
I currently have 576 addon sceneries activated in my sim, (both payware and freeware), and running the above mentioned, i found a total of 1326 duplicates in mine !! I found ONE particular texture was duplicated 187 times !! The duplicates were ALL from freeware sceneries, and also note, VOZ also contains a lot of the freeware object library textures as well.
