What to buy with $100?

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Well me and my brother have each run into 50 bucks each and what to spend it on something nice. Only problem, not sure what to get.

Don't need computer computer stuff, more computer accessories.

Our headset is playing up lately (one speaker cuts + out all the time = very annoying. That and the mic boom has become very loose and slides down all the time, not so annoying, but still kind of.

But when we are allowed to crank out the volume, our speakers (with we are borrowing from our parents so won't be able to hang on to them for long) are very cheap, very crappy. Anyone got surround sound on their PC? Recommend it? The Logitech X-530looks like a likely candidate...any one got them?

Thanks

Nick

What is really cool (on VATSIM) is getting a USB headset, getting all the comms through the headset, and having the engine sounds out the speakers. Though, I wouldnt invest a huge amount of money on awesome speakers, as good quality sound cuts framerates, and for me, bad sound (not that I can tell) doesnt matter.

Can you suggest any nice fitting USB headsets?

Then just buy a cheapy, my Microsoft one was $20, and its works fine.

Edit: Better still, why not just save it?? You never know when you might want a bit of cash for a day out or something.

If you did want to spend it on speakers, the Logitech speakers are really good.
I have the 2 channel + sub version of those, the X-240s or something.
The sound quality is really good and they weren't too expensive apparently. I like them.

Would you buy surround sound again if you had a choice?

Worth it?

Can anyone find me a simple headset with mic, USB!!! Maybe a 'over the ear' one, or just a lightweight one.

If get surround sound, I will want to be able to hear the engines!

Preferably not to $$$, and in NZ.

Been looking but not much luck yet.

Thanks

Found these, http://www.elive.co.nz/view_product.php?product=t10469 $41 bucks incl. GST + Shipping is quite a bit....but they are USB. Guess thats why.

Edit: No, apparently despite it's name 'Microsoft LifeChat LX-2000 USB' it has analog plugs. Weird. Back to Google

I just bought a new powersupply from OcZone but while I was there i couldnt resist getting the Logitech speakers which were on special in a bundle.

You can get the Logitech X-530 speakers (Sub +5 satellites) for $70 and you have to bundle them with another product such as the logitech USB headset for $42 (although I went for the soundcard since mine is a bit junk)

See here

Thanks for the links Daniel, forgot about TradeMe.

We went to Harvey Normans today and they had the X-530's out, tested them and got the all clear from the brother, so will probably get them.

Timmo, thanks for your link too. Although the headphones are too $$ for brothers liking, the cheapest thing you could bundle was $11. By the time you bundle the $70+GST speakers with the $11+GST usb flash drive which we don't need any way it adds up to 90 something bucks and I can get the speakers for $88 on Ferrit so will probably do that.
