FoxpineX (NZFP)

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby HardCorePawn » Sun Aug 03, 2008 1:57 am

Because I know this airfield is just a hotbed of sim activity... I have decided to unleash FoxpineX upon the simming world! dry.gif

Basically, I wanted to learn how to do photoreal textures for sceneries... I needed a nice small project to start with and my first light aircraft flight was out of Foxpine (or Pine Park as it was known in those days)... it is also the closest strip to my hometown (Levin) that is listed in the AIP... so Foxpine it was!

Again, this is an example of how easy it is to create your own airfields... I probably spent more time writing this post, the readme.txt, taking the screenshots, uploading the screenshots and uploading the .zip file to skydrive than I did making the scenery! (ok that is a bit of a lie... I spent ages taking all the shadows off the photoreal pics! ninja.gif)

You can download the package here: FoxpineX ~4Mb (skydrive.live.com)

As they say, "A picture says a thousand words"... so here are some screenies:

TopDown shot, showing the extent of the photoreal...

Looking across the airfield along runway 27...

Looking back in the other direction along runway 09...

Looking across the scenery from the North West...

Enjoy!

Thanks HCP,

Downloading now.

Wanganui used to have a yearly cricket match at Foxpine against Paraparaumu. both clubs flew in and played on the runway. Had to pull the wickets up when ever an aircraft flew in.

Still don't know if this is an event. But it was a hell of a lot of fun.

Cheers

Thanks guys... to be honest, it is nothing very special... not at all like the MilfordSoundX that I did with Mike... with its custom 3D buildings etc. But as a learning exercise was very helpful.

Might have to start looking at some of the other airfields around the place smile.gif I am thinking my next adventure might be NZPM...

Yeah... might be an idea... we've, Airline Flying Club, been invited down for a coffee at NZWU by the Airport Company... so when the weather is a bit nicer, we'll be heading down... would be nice to get a 'preview'...

I might even be able to branch out into doing the 3D buildings as well... put mike out of business... dry.gif hahahhaah NOT! That guy is a machine...

Cool,

I'll try and organise some photo's this week if the weather is good.

Is that coffee with the club, Wanganui Air or the council?

Cheers

You are obviously cranking up the autogen! hahaah looks really impressive with the autogen on full blast... I have noted that sometimes the agn gets a little over enthusiastic and starts creeping outside the boundaries that you draw with the annotator... ohmy.gif

might have to adjust that slightly...

Ok... for those who have errant trees... try using these AGN files... just remove all the .agn files from the FoxpineX/texture directory... and replace with these ones:

FoxpineX Autogen Fix (5k)

And for those who haven't downloaded it yet, I have also updated the complete package...
FoxpineX Complete Package v1.1 (~4Mb)

I do have an FS9 version of Foxpine on my rapidly dwindling "to-do" list of NZ sceneries.
Currently doing NZFI Feilding, and Foxpine is 2 down the list from Feilding.

HCP,.............. Beautiful peice of work mate !! Kinda makes wish i did stick with FSX instead of ditching it !!

Actually I think it has been blended in quite well.

something about the ground textures if you have your system set to winter at the moment the area is as brown as anything ,someone around here has always said you should always set you season to summer or everything will look like brown then photo green textures which is butt ugly ...plus the trees look better anyway, this was good advice and ive stuck with it
