Hi guys,

As you may have read in the last newsletter, I will be leaving New Zealand on Sunday night for my Big OE. Along with my mate Dan, I will be living in Brighton, England until the end of the year, in the southern county of Sussex, where I grew up.

We plan to spend our time both living an ordinary British life (on a backpackers budget), and seeing the sites, travelling all around the UK- and the continent. With so many different countries in close proximity, and an abundance of low cost airlines with connecting up all the main cities, the world is literally our oyster.

Our aim is to become more ‘worldly’, broaden our cultural horizons and experience all the culture that comes with the rich European history, and hopefully mature our personalities on the way.... Plus I’m going to visit my old neighbourhood, catch up with childhood friends and relatives, and generally have a good time!

Obviously, this means I won’t be flight simming, or running the NZFF site for the next six months- I’ve left that in the capable hands of Alex and Robin to do… but I’ll be sure to check in on the latest threads whenever I manage to get spare time/internet access.

Also, I will be creating a travel blog where I’ll try to keep a record of what I’m up to overseas, and post any photos I take, just in case anyone here is interested. This will be linked to my other kiwi mates and parents too, so I’ll pin it up the top of the Off Topic sub forum for everyone to find easily.

Finally, I might as well take this opportunity to thank all the members here for making NZFF the biggest and best flight simulation website in the country- without you guys posting the content here, the forums would be nothing more than an empty template. I never imagined that we would grow into an 800+ member community with over 50,000 posts… the fact members other than myself are organising real world meetups, such as last weekends Tauranga event, Airshow gatherings, and Ian Warren recently offering ‘chickenman’ a coach for the night, just goes to prove that we have extended far beyond the realms of a simple computer game hobby!

I’ve logged on here nearly every day for the last two years, and through interacting with other members, I’ve managed to increase the enjoyment I receive out of my flight simulation hobby ten fold- so many thanks once again, especially to the long time members who have sticked with us through the ups and downs, and contributed so much of your own time towards NZFF.

Keep up the good work everyone.

ttfn- Andrew

That is quite amazing. Just shows how much this site has grown.

Take a spare NZFF T-shirt and get to Farnborough!
Tell 'em it's just something you did in your spare time at school!
Enjoy!
Come back enriched!

'ave a great time chap. If you're writing a travel log in a book, then don't get behind! If you miss a day, and another, you can't remember what you did and then you forget about it and as soon as you know it you're back in NZ and have only got a couple of pages of log. I learnt this the hard way, but must finish writing it with our pics as reference.

Have fun,

Nick

Bon Voyage Andrew,

All the best for your travels abroad.

Look forward to the weird and wonderful aircraft and other shots on your return.

Take care and we all look forward to hearing updates from some small seedy internet cafe somewhere.

Happy travels mate

Would be great if Andrew could go to Farnborough, but I suspect he'll have missed it depending on when he leaves and arrives.
I second the thing about keeping a log and doing it properly - my grandma tried to keep one when we went to Aussi once, but she skipped a day, never filled it in and then didn't do any days in it after that.
There's still the photos and memories though.

Once again, have fun! smile.gif

Hey seeing as you're travelling light, there will be a black suitcase at the Royal Brunei checkin on Sunday night. Can you take it with you? I'll be in it winkyy.gif

laugh.gif I can remember how excited I was going to Europe last September, I guess it will be strange for you being there as a tourist!
