Thought these might be of interest to some, Visited the Derby Road Compressor Station with my Dad today. Just a couple of pics showing the engines there.
Sory I dont have much info about them biggrin.gif
One of two massive 16 cylender engines out of a submarine ohmy.gif For comparison im 5.11 and a half

The smaller 16 valve twin turbo.

And a shot of all three.


Like i said might be of some interest.

Great pics 'Q' ........Imagine operating these engines in the in-closed spaces of an old diesel/electric Submarine ! the second pic is more akin to the WWII german Uboat (more less same as patrol vessel ) but guess pic 1 is more common to the Orbeon British type operated by Australia 60/70s

anyone want to strap one of those bad boys to your car tongue.gif my old man is a boiler man, running boilers, and man some of those are huge, have been inside many of them, have seen some generator packs like this, mainly backup gensets and such, the pics don't show just how big they are, and how noisy too!!! thanks for posting the pics, it is great what your parents can get you into sometimes!!!

Wow ohmy.gif those are huge!
I've seen some similar sized machinery at the Karapiro dam on the Waikato river. Some of the turbines in there are pretty big and the noise was unbelievable pirate.gif

Yea they are massive, standing below them and looking up there huge, I should have got some pics of the Radiator's for them, the fans would be almost 2 story's high!
