WINDOWS VISTA.

With the new computer came Windows Vista, which I thought would be wonderful. The more that I use it, and the more that I read abouit it, the less that I like it. Seems to offer the user few advantages (of use) over XP.

Interested to hear how many other people are happy with Vista. I wish that I had stayed with XP.

Happy or not??

smooth landings.

Can't vote yet happy.gif Still using good ole XP. Will find out if I like vista or not in the coming months once I get a new PC that comes with it. Even though I've never used vista, I can say that I probably won't come back to XP anyway. The only thing that would bring me back, would be if one of the games I use often doesn't work, and never will.

I've learned from experience that everyone has different takes and reviews on things, so instead of going by what others say, I give it a go myself, then either think 'Well they were wrong!' or 'Wish I listened to them before I bought this!'

Anyway, I think this is what it's like with any new OS, when people can upgrade to newer things, they can't/wont because they've grown attached to their current OS, and are very well used to it.

It's OK, I use XP Pro at work, Vista at home on a new pc (2 Weeks), Win2K for another machine, Win98 on a 500Mhz jobbie and Debian on my server.

I haven't got a bloody clue how to find solitare most days.

There is a lot of vista that is really good. I'm getting excellent stability for the kids older games, where XP kept crashing them even when run in other modes. there is a lot of annoying cr@p on it though and as with any major brand box most of the issues I am having is with all of the extras installed especially norton.

I haven't got FS9 on vista - yet, but I am finding it pretty good.

Get used to it - it isn't going anywhere.

IF YOU HAVE THE HARDWARE VISTA IS A VERY GOOD O/S, now that I have said that my opinion comes from what I do for a living which is to test faulty game software, this means I get every game (85%) that comes out, sent to me, to find any problems that may or may not arise also any hic-cups during installation, and I find a lot of the newer games run better and are alot more stable, this maybe due to more mature video and sound drivers as well as SP1, now before you scream out, your copy of Simcity2000 or Doom2 doesn't work anymore, this happened when WinXP was released and will continue to happen as Microsoft release newer versions of Windows, maybe we should have a poll as to uses Windows98/ME??

I was very hesitant about Vista when it came with my laptop, but am now completely in love with it wub.gif

The few times I have gone back and used my original XP PC, it feels so old and basic- more like a rugged 4x4 where as Vista is like driving a sleek new saloon... (Can I get away with comparing an operating systems to an automobile?)

Funny that, I dont think we have too many Mac OSX Leopard Users here..

Some of you should give that ago, then see what you think of vista!

Personally, its not bad, but Its a bit of overkill when it comes to basic word processing and other basic tasks.

There may be a few more OSX Leopard users out there than you think... and yes, Leopard makes Vista look a little clumsy and dated, but each to their own.

I use OSX Leopard on my two Macs and XP on my two PCs. Even though I have only just had a new PC built/delivered in the last month, the advice from the techs and anyone else I asked was to avoid Vista if at all possible. Not my opinion, but the opinion of the people who build PCs for a living.

And all my Flightsim repaints are done on the Mac, running OSX Leopard... biggrin.gif

i dont like vista but im too lazy to put xp back on. That, and i dont actually have a copy of xp anymore, because vista was meant to be the next best thing.... mmm-hmm. Pretty much, vista is just a bloated power hungry XP with a fancy theme, a few pointless features, and less hardware support. Windows 7 is where its at. All this i realised, $400 later.

I've been using Vista literally for years, ever since the first preview release of it as "Windows Longhorn" back in 2003. I used it a bit back then, but have been using it fulltime at work since beta 1 came out in 2006, and the company I was working for joined the Microsoft early adopter/beta test program.

I need to give you that background as it could indicate that I've got some bias in favour of Vista. But it does also indicate that I've had a long time to get used to it, and learn about the new features.

I'm a big fan of Vista personally. Yes, it needs more powerful hardware than XP, but it certainly doesn't need anything too the top since, especially if you're a gamer (of pretty much any sort) you'll likely have hardware that is good enough to run it.

Some of the great features in Vista for users could be considered "finishing touches" on XP, I suppose, and perhaps thats where the perception that it's just XP with sugar on top, comes from. Having said that though, here is a quick list of some of the things I think are cool in Vista:

Start menu improvements - scrollable list of programs, rather than XP's crappy, crappy menu system + the start menu search box.
Search in general - it actually works!
Windows explorer's new "breadcrumb" style address bar. This ROCKS! It's so damn useful!
Gamer centric features - DirectX10, and the Games Explorer. Really shows that MS support gamers (what other OS vendor does the same?)
The improvements made to Task Manager
The reliability and performance monitor
The Aero Glass interface - good looks do count for something! biggrin.gif

Each of these features are things I can't do without now, having had them for years with Vista...

Vista has many problems? I disagree, and as I said before I've been using it continuously since early 2006, on a range of machines from my home desktop PC, through a number of different laptops...

Vista has steeper system requirements, sure, but thats not a problem with the software. It works differently, perhaps thats a "problem" for some people, but the vast majority of people I know who have switched have enjoyed the experience, and have no intention of going back to XP voluntarily.
