Peculiar Rotorua Trees in FSX

The official REAL NZ support forum

Hi all
I have recently upgraded my rig so that I can now really explore FSX.
On loading RealNZRotorua (for FS2004) and the FSX update, I notice a most peculiar effect with some of the trees near the airport apron.
It appears that the transparent rectangles around each tree blocks out the images of any other objects (trees) behind that rectangle.
This does not happen with the autogen trees further away from the airport.
Is this a known anomaly and any explanation?
I still love this scenery though and am now enjoying FSX.
Best wishes
Mike

Yes, this was introduced with FSX SP2 -- all FS2004-style transparency was wrecked. I really should get around to releasing a fix.

Thanks for the reply Rob
I was hoping it was not a peculiarity of my new set-up so I am relieved and look forward to a fix if possible in the future.
I must get around to reading the SDKs as I like to know how things change between reincarnations of MSFS even though I have done little more than "tinker" at the edges of scenery design!
Cheers

can I put in a vote for this too, it really annoys me...or tell me how to do it myself as I have several add packages effected by this. is it editing the objects themselves???

Yes, while similar problems with aircraft after SP2 could be solved in many cases by the user changing the textures, I haven't found a way to do this with scenery. The trees need to be remodelled. They need a fundamental change as well -- my old trees are a single plane which rotates to face the screen. This is a FS2004 hack, which doesn't work with the FSX GMAX exporter, so I need to make cross-plane trees (which I don't like as much.) However the Rotorua trees are generic enough to just use default trees.
